Airfare Prices?

Okay Buffalo just isn't an option -- it is costing us $1400 and change for four of us to fly this January out of Ottawa.

That's actually not too bad for a Canadian origination flight.

We always fly out of Syracuse, too. It is about 3.25 hours from the east end of Ottawa so we always go down the night before and stay at the Best Western Airport Inn. The park and fly rate is about $130 or so. Depending on what time our return flight comes in, sometimes we stay the night before heading back as well. When you factor in 1 or 2 nights in hotel in Syracuse, breakfast and a tank of gas, that's going to get you pretty close to an extra $300-$350. If you get the $99 flights, for four people that's going to run you about $950. Add $350 to that and you are pretty close to the $1400. you paid from Ottawa. For a savings of a hundred bucks, I probably wouldn't go to the trouble of driving to Syracuse (unless the flight times were significantly better, direct flights, etc). You did pretty good!

We paid $1600 for 4 flying out of Halifax with Air Canada in Dec. '06.
We paid a similar price in Feb. '05 flying out of Halifax with Delta.

If you price Rochester Airport to Tampa you can save a bundle.

Also Albany New York to Orlando is a good price.

It is just a little longer drive to Rochester instead of Syracuse from the Ivy Lea bridge.

Albany is quite a haul.

We live in Belleville, Ontario so we drive, but I have priced flights for our family. If we were flying it would be out of Rochester.

I also use Booking Buddy, Kayak or One Time to price flights.

We paid $550 in Dec 06 and Mar 07 for a family of four RT from Buffalo. We paid $800RT in September and $800RT flying out on NYE this year. We have used AIR TRAN, Jet Blue and Southwest. Couldn't wait for the DINGS for September and are afraid to wait any longer for New Years Eve. $800 is still more than 1/2 of Toronto's price.

We were going to fly out of Buffalo (did last time) and I actually booked $69 each way with Southwest. The total was about $800 for 6 of us. Then a ding fare came out for Detroit for $39 each way so the price went down to just under $600 for 6 of us. (of course now I have a credit and will have to go again.....:) )

I thought so.

I checked EVERYWHERE for flights before I finally decided that flying out from home was easiest and most economical. I suspect had I gambled and waited to get tickets we might have gotten a good seat sale but I just don't have the stomach for that.

What I DID do was change my travel dates. We originally had planned to go the first week of February - had rooms booked by ADRs done everything and couldn't find airfare for less than $2200 -- even out of US airports when the cost of gas and hotels were factored in. I kept saying to Dh as I looked at the prices for January that if I'd only known we would have booked for the week ahead instead. Then the brick finally hit me in the middle of the forehead :lmao: and it occured to me to change our reservation.

I'm not disappointed at all. In fact when I called to confirm the tickets I got a different TA than the one who had found the flights for me and they exclaimed what a great rate it was.

Wow- those are some great deals- \

I am looking for April 19 to May 3 out of Buffalo and so far the cheapest I have found is 278.8 each- =1115.20 for 4 of us- am I missing something or is it just to early to get the better deals-

Thanks, Jen

You can get Air Tran on these dates (1 stop) for $219
(Southwest and Jetblue prices will be out in November)

Six of us flew out of BUF on an open-jawed AirTran ticket last July for just over US$ 1200, taxes and insurance in. Can't beat that. :thumbsup2

We're flying to Ft Lauderdale the last week of Feb on SW out of BUF. Two adults cost US$ 517.00 rtn including taxes.

I have booked a flight from buffalo to orlando and back for 3 of us on southwest, leaving dec 10 and returning dec 20, $471 all in. Cheapest flight I have ever got.

I booked a flight for my trip through travelocity, got a rate a thought was decent.. then a few weeks later I looked into changing my dates to save some money and to extend my trip. I called them and inquired about changing my flight. They told me there'd be a fee of $150 to change my flight dates!! I decided to stay with my original dates/flight. A $150 fee didn't seem worth it to me. They said the fee to change your ticket depends on which airline you're with. Different airlines have different fees to modify your flight.

Unless you're booking a full fare flight, most airlines will charge a penalty to change the dates. Some are higher than others so you'll have to check. I got very lucky with SouthWest last year when I booked our flights a day later than I meant to. A week later I called them back and they made the change with no charge. I got lucky that time but I certainly wouldn't count on it happening again. :cool1:

Actually I WOULD count on them to do it again, they do not charge a change of flight fee at all just the fare difference if there is one. That is a great thing about SWA!

We are using our Air Miles with West Jet in early December. It's a good deal if you have the West jet master card - only 1400 air miles (1660 in high season) each + taxes which are about $135 (!) ...I guess that this is why the Buffalo flights are cheaper.
