airfare price watch

I am trying to book air out of Springfield, MO (if possible) on July 31-August 7. On Hotwire, it was consistantly staying around $290/person. Today it shot up to over $340/person. Does anyone who watches airfare prices think it is partly due to being Friday and prices tend to post higher the later in the week, then drop back down later on Sunday and earlier in the week? I would rather not book through hotwire, since you're at the mercy for whatever time you "get", but the cost savings (at $290/person) was significant over booking through traditionals sites. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!!

they can check airfares (including Southwest). Pretty cool little free program.

yes, flight prices do go up on a Friday. best time to book a flight is after midninght on Tuesday and before midnight on Wednesday. The best options and prices are just after midnight EST.

Ive been watching air for our Oct trip for about 2 months and it started at $216 and then went to $268!!!!


Well about 2 weeks ago on a Sun nite just for the fun of it I checked and it was down to $177!!!!

boy did I book fast!!!!
