I'm curious about others' experiences with Airborne. I talked to my doctor after my umpteenth sinus infection this school year and she said it was worth trying, but did not have an opinion on it one way or the other. I have to admit I am skeptical. The whole "created by a school teacher" thing does not impress me. I am a school teacher and am in no way qualified to create an immunity supplement.

I bought the cheap CVS version, and it says take every 3 hours or up to 3 times a day! Do people really take it that often? That seems like an incredible money drain.

If you can get it down.... I've tried it a few times, and it just tasted so nasty, I gave up on it!

Two years ago, the makers of Airborne settled a fraud suit with the government. Apparently, teaching elementary school does not make one an expert on dietary supplements. They still make it, but they toned down their advertisements.

I thought all it was was high doses of vitamin C, echinacea and zinc?

What precipitates your sinus infections? I have an allergy that I acquired in adulthood. If I don't take allergy meds, I end up with sinus infections. It took me awhile to realize this, it's all new to me.

I have a combo of seasonal/year round allergies- but I do take my allergy meds religiously. I think it's more likely being a first year teacher in a class with kids that bite and spit. I have kids that spit in my face on a regular basis as well as bite. Plus, my kids are not the greatest about using tissues. But, I have had this issue forever. An innocent cold becomes a sinus
infection which becomes bronchitis/asthma depending on which doctor diagnoses me.

I tried that stuff and like a previous poster said, could not get it down. It was nasty! I had a professor who swore by it, but I'm thinking it's not worth it. I am trying nasal irrigation so hopefully that will help. Any other advice would be appreciated. I'm tired of being sick all the time!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Many people I know get sick frequently during their first year working in a classroom. In my first year or two as a teaching assistant, I came down with lots of colds. I'm now in my 8th year and it has gotten increasingly better, although I stayed home today with a nasty cold and cough! I work with preschoolers and they are notorious for wiping their noses on their hands or sleeves. We work on nose blowing skills and are liberal with the hand sanitizer but we still get sick occasionally.

Airborne actually works! I love the stuff. I keep stocked up on it every whinter and it is my "go to" remedy at the first sign of a cold. It is all the Chinese herbs & other supplements. :thumbsup2 Chinese Internal Medicine & herbology has been around for 4000 years. Western medicine doesn't acknowledge it , but that doesn't mean a lot of it isn't valid.

I drink it in a quarter cup of water. Anything more and it tastes yucky. :p I prefer the orange flavor.

A few years ago, that school teacher sold the company which misrepresented Airborne. She bought back the company. Airborne is a supplement, the same as vitamins & minerals are supplements, not pharmaceuticals drugs. I think the class action suit was brought about by a pharmaceutical company or organization. Some pharmaceutical companies, organizations & doctors also believe vitamins don't really work. :confused3

It's the Chinese herbs which make it really work. :thumbsup2

I love airborne- as soon as I feel a cold coming on I take it and I keep taking it a few times a day until it passes. I usually put it in about 2 ounces of water- like half a dixie cup! And just drink it down in one gulp. I could never put it in a big glass and drink it like that- yuk!

I love Airborne!
The week before we go on vacation I start my DD's on Airborne to give their immune system a little boost before we fly. So far it has worked every time.
I started sucking on zinc lozenges as soon as I feel the little tickle that means a cold is coming on. It absolutely stops it in its tracks.

My first year or two of teaching I was sick all the time too. It does get better. We love Airborne, we really think it makes a difference. Like others have said though, it is a supplement, not a drug/cure~

We've had great success with Zicam. As a family we survived the winter without one cold.

I HATE how it tastes. Personally, airborne does nothing for me OR DH. (and we both think it tastes icky!).

I recommend Zicam and also a nasal rinse. I get horrible sinus infections at least 3-4 times a year. They are terrible. If it wasn't for my Nasal Rinse, I wouldn't be able to function. The concept of the nasal rinse really freaked me out at first and was weird to use to begin with but once you get used to it, it's easy and so effective.

Here's a link to the nasal rinse I use. The brand is NeilMed. (I bought mine at Target but I've seen them at Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, etc): http://www.neilmed.com/usa/sinusrinse.php

Best of luck to you!!

EDIT: Saw you're a teacher (I'm 3rd grade..) and feel your pain! Honestly, I think what's helped me the most is taking a regement of vitamins, washing my hands inbetween classes, and sanitizing my students' desks and my desk with a spray cleaner everyday after they leave! It's really made a difference in my classroom- less sick kids and less sick teacher! ;)

this is exactly what I do don't put it in the 8oz glass of water, use the small dixie cup I think airborne is great at the first twinge of a cold I stat taking it every 3 to 4 hours, and the cold never gets past a sniffle If I forget to take it, I usually will get a full blown cold

I think it's great, I take it before and during Disney trips. My mom is a teacher and she swears by it, and we actually got DH to take it, and it worked for him.
