Is it OK to pack a bottle of liquor in your luggage? If so, should it go in your carry-on?

You can pack it in the luggage you check, but since 9/11 you can't take it in your carry on....broken bottle = Weapon.


Wrap it well and check it...it should be fine

I've carried bottles of wine in my carry on on three different flights since September 11 with absolutely no problems.

I have brought lots of liquor in glass bottles since 9/11 too (we do a lot of Disney cruises, and I bring wine coolers as presents for some of our crew friends). I always bring it in my carry-on and it has always been allowed (although they have inspected the bag pretty carefully). From what they've said a couple of times, they seem to be more concerned with whether it is for our personal consumption during the flight vs. using broken glass as a weapon.

Oh well...sorry for the misinformation...I wasn't able to bring a bottle in my carry-on in May. Maybe different airports have different standards.

I'd call ahead, just to be sure

This is just another example of how these new rules regarding carry-ons are nothing more than window dressing. For example the airlines do not have metal cutlery in first class anymore, but they still have glass dishes and wine glasses.....

When in doubt, call the airline first... However I will say I had a friend who travelled to Tahiti recently and he had no problem taking a bottle of rum with him so he could make drinks in his room.
