Has anyone here flown Air Transat recently?

They have some pretty good prices right now but haven't heard mention of them in years.

Also if you have, where you able to pick your seat? Nothing on the website showed that I could.

Thank you

Kim

I flew with them in April $89 return from Toronto. I would describe their customer service as garbage. I tried talking to eh agent at the airport and he blanked me. didn't respond to anything i said. All i got was tickets please, then passports please. Seemed like his boyfriend broke up with him the night before or something. He was toxic. The flight attendants were nice and the flight was alright other than my screaming 2 year old who doesn't like being cooped up in a plane as we found out. We noticed our return flight was scheduled through sky service, which they don't tell you until after you have paid. They went out of business just before we left so we received new tickets, but weren't told which airline. But we had a flight number and a time. I called from the hotel to confirm and yes the air transat flight with that number and time was on time. Get to the airport, no check in's for Air Transat. couldn't find anyone. Got into the mile long CanJet line and started calling Transat. Had to make 3 calls, only person i could talk to was at Seat reservations who didn't know what was going on, but I told her the situation and that i wasn't getting off the phone till someone got us some help. Turns out we were on the CanJEt flight, no one told us. Then the plane was delayed over an hour after saying it was on time. Then the gate got moved and no one heard the announcement, except for a few people. They moved and one of them came back to tell people about it so we all spread the word.

All of this left me with a bad taste. Add to that our flight home was originally at 10am, because we have a 2 year old and knew that was the time he would be awake and alert and better for the other passengers, no one wants a screaming baby on their flight. They moved our flight to 8:30pm and we got into Toronto at 1am. when they changed the flight i called and left a message 3 times asking to change to an earlier flight, no one got back to me.

Had it been my wife and I we probably wouldn't have cared as much. But we had a 2 year old and it was bad because his bed time is 8 and he was up till 1am on a flight. When I got back I called to complain, left a message as no one answered for over an hour. I wrote an email to them, no one responded. SO needless to say my opinion of them has dropped a ton. I have flown with them to England, France, and Florida before, maybe 7 or 8 years ago, and they were fine.

My theory is if you wrong me in some way but apologize or at least answer my concerns, I am fine. I like when a company makes it right. I don't need free things to make it right, just an acknowledgement of my concerns, and an apology. If i get that, they get my business again. everyone makes mistakes, but ignoring them is not acceptable.

Do yourself a favor and drive to Buffalo. I live in Bowmanville just east of Oshawa. it's worth the 2-2.5 hour drive for us to save hundreds. Unless you can get a flight under $100 it is not worth it because of the taxes. we have flown southwest and Airtran, had flights around $70 each way and we usually save about $350-$500 for the two of us.

Sorry for the long post.

Much cheaper to fly out of Buffalo for $69.00 one way since taxes and fees kill any deal from Pearson.

No not for my flights, I usually fly out of Buffalo but right now for a flight I have booked to Tampa, SW is $792 US and Air Canada $781 Canadian. Right now I am looking for a flight in January and my flight down with SW would be almost $300 so was searching around and Air Transat was the cheapest.

Your right since SW is only booking up to Jan 7th. You can get flights with other airlines like Delta or AirTran for $260.00 return incl taxes. Even if you have to pay for a checked bag it's much better than $780 for a return flight from Pearson. That is crazy.

Thank you for your insight but I really am looking for info on Air Transat. I usually fly 3 to 4 times per year out of Buffalo but the prices just aren't there right now for me for when I need to travel. I am a little picky when I fly since I hate it and only book direct flights.

If anyone has any info out there on Air Transat I would really appreciate it.

Kim

Had great experience with them in 2009 It was a Canjet flight. No problems here

Thanks Ted, yes the flight I was looking for with Air Transat was with Canjet.

Where you able to pick your seats ahead of time or is it like a first come first serve kind of thing?

Thanks again

I am pretty sure you can pick your seats ... the four of us where together, so I expect that to be the case. My wife would go crazy if the kids were not with us. Canjet is a excellent charter ...

They have a seat selector function ... under right corner.

Thanks Ted, looks like you have to wait till just before you fly which is fine. Thanks again for the info

We used them last March, halifax to Orlando, they also use Canjet, no problems, a budget airlines, they even served lunch with a glass of wine, not bad for a budget airline. I would fly with them again.

We are flying Air Transat out of Buffalo in August, and I called their custoemr service line and asked them about picking seats ahead of time.

I believe you can pick them any time before the flight but there is an additional charge.

However, you can for free after 1:00 pm the day before the flight.

we just booked with them for feb next year but its operated under canjet as well. my ta asked me if i wanted to preselect and pay for our seats now. or she said i could do it 24 hrs ahead of time free of charge.

Be very careful with air transat, in 2003 I flew with them to England with my mum, and 2 of my brothers, well we had no problems with them on the way there, but we did have a big problem with them on the way back. The check in was being done by a different airline which I can understand, but for some reason they could not find in the system that we had paid for and had been assigned seat already, and they wanted to assign us in different locations on the plane. When my mum argued about it the agent then wanted to weigh our Carry on Bags and the said that they were "overweight" and wanted to charge us a fee for it but decided to wave it as we had already paid money to Air Transat. Also in 1998 we flew them to Orlando for the march break, we had no problem with them on the way down, but when we were supposed to return home they were checking everyone in and informing them that we would not be departing today as there had been a storm in Toronto the day before and the flight crew couldn't fly out that night as they had been flying to many hours already. So they put us up in a hotel room over night. If we had know this before we had left WDW we could have had more time in the parks then the few hours we did that had that day.

Doesn't really seem like you can blame AT for that. I think that's a plus for them - to put you up. I've seen way to many news reports during bad weather here in TO where they close down Pearson, and passengers are left stranded.
