Air Transat and H1N1

I have a friend leaving on Nov 2 and her doctor has advised that her son MIGHT have H1N1. Tests are still underway. Now they absolutely have planned to cancel the trip - no question. His health is the most important, not to mention anyone he might come into contact with.

The issue is that without travel insurance and since the trip is only a week away, I think she might be outof luck with re-booking for another time - she is quite prepared to pay the additional fee to re-book. Has anyone ever had any luck re-booking on such short notice? with the H1N1 being so prevalent these days, do you think this might even be possible?:confused3
 
With it being such a huge concern this year I'd say Call Air Transat and explain the issue and see if they will do anything - Doesn't hurt to try but without the insurance I'm not sure what they would do.
 
I'm not sure what their policy will be but I would call if I were her. This isn't a choice to rebook and, even though she doesn't plan to fly with him unhealthy, she might not want to make that too clear to the customer service person. If she says he has H1N1 and wants to know their policy, there's a good chance they'll say they don't want him to fly. I'm thinking if they refuse to fly you, you've got a better chance of them being willing to do something about the rebooking. However, I'm pretty sure, as long as you;re not actually ticketed, you can rebook as long as you pay the change fees.

Ugh! We leave on the 3rd and I'm scared silly that we're going to get H1N1 in the next week. I haven't even packed yet becauase of it. We don't have trip insurance because we're using our American rewards miles for the flights and haven't prepaid anything else, just in case. But as far as I understood, since the miles are technically free, you can't insure them, even though if we want to change the flights if we get sick or get our reward miles recredited to us, it's the same as paying regular change fees.

theres no point in worrying about h1n1.
just take extra care to wash your hands often
 

The Canadian Govt issued a statement yesterday (you can find it on various news sites), asking airlines to help customers with cases of H1N1 who would like to rebook their air travel to avoid infecting others.
 
We leave in 17 days and DD woke this am with a low grade fever :((. I hope it is not H1N1. Trying to get DH and DS vaccinated today. I got the vaccine yesterday. I am hoping not to have to cancel since I booked flights and disney seperately myself
