We just booked Air Tran out of Detroit to Orlando for August ($59 down and $87 return US, non-stop)!!! Yippee!

Now, with such a great deal, I'm curious what experiences others have had with the airline!
Thx!!:)

We flew Airtran in April.
It was certainly a no frills flight (ie. no tv's) but we had an overall good experience.
They were accomadating with the children, or anyone around us with an infant.
We booked our seats prior to getting to the airport so that I would know we were all together. 2 adults, 3 kids, kind of necessary!!! Although I didn't every pay for this service as others have mentioned being charged.
Their carry-on allowance is large, and it could be possible to fly without checking bags. They do charge for checked luggage.
I would fly with them again.
Have a great trip.

Flew Air Tran last time from DTW. Absolutely no problems except they will likely change your times. Air Tran is famous for changing the times. You'll get an email notifying you of the change. If you don't like the change, call and tell them that it doesn't work for you and why. I did this when they gave us too long a layover w/ the kids and she switched us to a non-stop. Honestly, we had a better experience on AirTran than when we flew Delta our first trip (much more helpful people). We still gt a drink and a small bag of pretzels. Besides, at Air Tran's prices, as long as it's safe, who cares if there are no frills? LOL

We also had a very positive experience flying with AirTran They do offer satellite radio ( I would bring your own headphones as they are some times out of free ones ) And they are now offering Wi Fi I would get to the airport lots early as they have a small staff and stop check ins 1/2 hr before flight

We flew AirTran for the first time during March Break this year. We got a round trip flight using a $25.00 discount coupon each way for a total of $67.00. It cost a family of 5 a total of $335.00 to fly non-stop from Pittsburgh to Fort Myers. Service was great! We used carry on luggage and did not reserve seats so no extra fees.

We just got back. We flew AirTran and took only carry on luggage. We had no problems. I would certainly use them again if the price was right.

AirTran will be offering Wifi on ALL flights as of June i believe, I recieved an email last week from them! Very very very happy, my wifi blackberry will be great entertainment for my "nofrills" flight! :woohoo:

We fly AirTran almost exclusively out of DAY (Dayton, Ohio). We have never had any problems and flights usually only change by a few minutes. We just booked another trip with them for this November. Since we are flying down for US Thanksgiving week the deals were not as great as the OP got, but we were happy.

Great Price! Congrats!
we have flown with AirTran a few times now! no complaints here....especially when flying out of toronto is 1000 dollars more!
we are booking AirTran out of buffalo in September. the best price so far is $639US for 4 people.
Enjoy your flight!:thumbsup2

It's great to hear the positive reviews for Airtran. We fly out of DTW (detroit) and usually take spirit but have been considering Airtran for our January trip. Is Airtran one of Disney's "preferred" airlines? (one of the ones you can check in at the resort)

Yes they are (

We really Enjoyed being able to use the resort check in no lugging luggage to MCO and they where able to print our boarding passes

We have flown Airtran several times and love it! Baggage gets forwarded to our rooms with and the service is quite good. Can't beat the price.

Flew AirTran last March Break from Detroit. Great experience. In fact one of our best. Be sure to select your seats is my only advice. It is in a different smaller part of the airport called Willow Run and therefore it was a lot quieter and security Much quicker and convenient.
Enjoy. Great deal.:thumbsup2

We flew Air Tran 3 weeks ago to WDW. They were very good with the children and very good at making sure families with children are seated together. On our flight home they had my 3 yr old sitting by herself and a soon as we brought it to their attention( at the gate) they changed it right away. Just FYI since you are close to go to Detroit (I'm in Corunna which is near Sarnia) you should try flying out of Flint. It's the same distance for us and much smaller, can't get lost. On the flight home we were the only flight in the terminal. Also their park and fly is much cheaper. $30 per week. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

thanks for the info! :thumbsup2

we have talked about flying from flint but some of us are coming from Ridgetown and London. London is no big but for the ones coming from Ridgetown it would add another hour + to their driving time so I am thinking that Detroit will be the winner this time.

we will definitely be doing seat ahead of time. DD will be 4 and DS 6. Not something that I feel comfortable leaving up to chance.:scared:

i checked my upcoming flight and they has prolonged take off for 6 hours, i booked in Feb for a nonstop leaving Aug 23 at 10:30 am arriving in Orlando at just after 1pm very upset that now its showing its not taking off until 430pm arriving just after 7pm, i've now lost 6 hours of my first day in Disney:mad::mad:

Warning the can be cheap to fly with but have a lower weight allowance for luggage than the major airlines make sure you have cash to get your luggage home!!!

They have a smaller size allowance than average for checked bags, but I think the 50lb allowance is about the industry standard for airlines in their pier group along with the legacy carriers.

Kimmie: don't click to accept the change on the email. Call the customer service # and tell them that's too much a time difference and throws off your travel plans. They'll look and see if there's something closer to your original take-off time. Air Tran tries to fly full planes so they do bump from the original itinerary but, I found when I called about changes, they were awesome and had no trouble switching me back to something more convenient.

Since Airtan only has 1 direct flight out of BUF to MCO, has anone experienced any changes in time with this flight? In Oct, it leaves just after 12:00 which is perfect! Currently, it is only $59pp as well, which is much better than SW which is over $100pp!
