Air Tran

So, I'm looking at Air Tran because even though I will most likely get a layover in Atlanta, the price is just tooo good to pass up! However, I am unsure of how AirTran's boarding procedure works. Do you get to pick seats or is it an ABC thing like SWA. They note on their web site that they board in ZONES? What the hell is that?

7 of us flew down here Sunday after a large Sleet storm had stopped all flights the day before, other then the 5 extra flight crew they placed in seats and some cancelled reservations due to storm it was great. There offered on all the flights round trip tickets to anyone that was willing to give up their seats on our planes so flight crew or cancelled could ride. If I was not heading to dis with family I would have grabbed those round trip anywhere for a few hours of my time oh yea.
Any way we reserved seats when I made reservation for the plane and I would do it again. I saw several parties separate just to get seats our planes was over booked. We were to have only 45 minute layover in Atlanta but they waited around for connecting flights to land but once the plane was full they made up for lost time and was only maybe 10 minutes over due. Was so nice to print passes and seats at home and go straight to bag checking I would guess less then 30 minutes to clear security and be waiting to board the plane at 5:45 AM

If I remember correctly the zones are A,B,C and may be D...and then within the zones ...if when you check in your party is ove 2-3 zones you board with what ever is called first. Fairly smooth.

The zones just tell you which group to board with, but everyone will have a seat assignment before boarding.

We flew AirTran to WDW at Thanksgiving. We didn't pay more to get assigned seats, but when I checked in online 24 hours before, we were assigned the first row in coach. On the way back, my husband checked us in. My reservation had a different confirmation number than husband's and son's, and husband did my check-in first. I got seat 10F. He and son got row 29!

Holy cow, the fares from mdw to mco are great! I am considering rebooking my package for one week earlier in Feb......right now we are going for Pres. day wkend, and the fares are not great. Decisions, decisions.....
