Air Tran is having a Sales until Wednesday April 18th ... for travel through May 31st!! Hope someone can take advantage of this.

We are only going in December, I'm hoping that we will have a great sale like this !!

I was going to do that from Detroit. I didnt see date restrictions! Ill have to check that dealout again.

I can never find a deal from Cleveland. We were going to drive to Detroit to save 300.00+.

And this could be something that doesn't happen often...buttttt

I had some Clients that travelled AirTran this past March break from BUF-FLL. They were 2 families, one of 3 and themselves being 5. They booked approx 3 months prior and arrived at the A/P 2.5 hours prior, checked in, no prob, the whole 9 yds. Boarding time...their friends board and they are asked as the boarding process is in full swing to step aside. They are told the flight is full and you are being offloaded. Your bags are onboard already and cannot be retrieved so they will be there awaiting your arrival. This is Friday and they have nothing to offer till the following Tuesday. Two days AFTER their cruise departs FLL on Sunday!!!

Sorry, no other options. Soooo they walk the terminal...with their 3 kids...and find another Airline, Continental I think, that has something out of Cleveland if they can get there and it will cost another $1,600+. They rent a car, drive the 4.5 hrs to Cleveland and get the flight which by the way, takes them into MCO. Arrive in MCO, rent another car, drive through the evening into the wee hours to FLL.

AirTran were disgustingly rude and didn't care one bit about their plight. Too bad, so sad..kind of attitude. They spent almost $2,000 USD incl car rentals to get themselves to their destination.

I am a TA and I told AirTran I would be sure to pass along this one families experience and I am!

My 2 cents..for what it's worth!:confused3

Thats terrible. Another good reason to get insurance.

We fly AirTran a lot. We have never seen any problems.

One time Continental offered 400 a person to wait till the next flight that was 5 hours away. We turned down the 1,600.00 to get to Disney! It was our first trip.

My brother had issues with Air Tran in March - they cancelled his flight on him and informed him they couldn't get him another flight until the Wednesday (this was Sunday of the March break week)

They returned the money for the flight and my brother ended up renting a car and driving home and he sent in a complaint letter to air tran and ended up getting back most of his costs for driving home but in a credit.

Thanks for the price info for our possible May trip and I still can't get the good pricing for the flight going down there. Not looking much like we're going to get to go - dh said we really have to choose what's more important (after this was all his idea and he got my hopes up!!) central air in the new house or a weekend at Disney! Don't think my asthma can make it through the summer with out the c/a. :sad2:

These people were refunded the cost of the AirTan tickets..but they are still waiting on any offering of the costs incurred to get them to Florida. They have been in touch with the CEO of the Company as well as Homeland Security on the issue of their baggage being allowed to go (because it isn't!) without them. Nothing resolved as of yet.

WOW! That's terrible. We are flying AirTran this coming Aug. I flew with them 2 years ago, and they were offering incentives for people to not fly on the Atlanta to Buffalo portion of our flight. They actually had a list of people willing to get off the plane, and had to use some of them because of a broken down plane in Buffalo. The gentleman in front of me was upset because he was on the list, but they had enough "takers". Now on a flight going TO Florida, I doubt there would be as many willing to delay. ;)

I would not be a happy camper if this happened to me.

Although there's been some bad experiences with the above stories relating to AirTran (it actually happens with almost every airline these days), I did some searching on AirTran's webpage.

For example - Detroit (DTW)
The chances of getting $64 each way for a family of 4 leaving May 19 and coming back May 26 are available. But really, one must be very flexible with their flight times for this rate. Most dates for the seats are at $89.

Good luck!

How do you get bumped off the flight when you have an assigned seat? :confused3 And that is horrible!

Well that's a good question!
And it seemed to not make a difference at all as they had their seats ages beforehand along with their friends! We all know with Tango-AC fares, you run the risk of no seat, but once assigned who knew they could take it back!?:confused3

I just booked tickets for the 4 of us. I hope everything will go as planned!

We have used AirTran a lot. Ill be keeping my fingers crossed.

We have travelers insurace just incase.

Its the lowest fare we have ever paid to get us all to Orlando.

$675.00

We usually pay 1,200.00

If an airline was going to remove someone off of a flight, why wouldn't it just be whoever was the last person to check in for that flight? Or why wouldn't the system "kinda know" when they assign the seats that they're full, so that when the next group tries to check-in, either on-line or at the airport, they're told at that time that there are no seats left? Giving a person a boarding pass and then taking it away at the gate is something that should only happen on The Amazing Race ... and only to the really annoying teams! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

When we flew Airtran in 2005, we had to change planes in Atlanta. DSis checked us in right at the 24 hour mark ... for the first leg of the trip, the only seats available were in the very back row (the one with no window ... talk about feeling like you're in a closet), yet when she went to the 2nd leg of the flight, other than the first few rows, we had our pick of the plane. :confused3

I think sometimes, they switch planes last minute, or have issues with certain seats... Like someone just threw up in it or broke the seat or something like that and they need to bump people off .
On our last flight they where looking for 2 people willing to stay behind and take the next flight out (which was 2hrs later) and they would give them 4 trips anywhere Airtran flew and Meal Vouchers for the airport. If we didn't have our 2.5yr old and our 5yr old we would have take that... Walk around Atlanta airport for 2hrs have a nice meal and do some shopping and get to fly anywhere for free 2 times !! why not ??

These are horrible stories and I really sympathize with the folk who have had to endure these issues.
In saying that....I think this is one more reason to arrive early at the airport to check in .
