Air Tran Question

Hi - I have never flown Air Tran but will this August.
Is it open seating like Southwest?
If so, can you print your boarding pass ahead of time?

We just got back from Disney and flew Airtran for the first time! They were great! No problems! Also, you can go online 24 hours before your flight and get boarding passes. It is very easy! Just pick your seats, and print the boarding passes on your printer. Cool! Enjoy your trip!

No it isn't open seating with AirTran. If you didn't have the type of ticket that allowed you to pick your seat when you bought it then you can pick a seat 24 hours in advance of your flight. If your flight is full your seat may already be assigned when you check in. There may be some empty seats you could switch to if you didn't like what you got.

I had a bad experience last weekend with Airtran. I sat at my computer waiting to be within the 24 hour timeframe to select the seats and print the boarding pass for a friend heading to Disney this week. As soon as I was within 24 hours of her flight, I started trying to get in to do her this favor.

Well, even though Indpls and Atlanta (AirTran's home base) are on the SAME time, I kept getting a message that I had to wait until 24 hours before her flight to book ( HELLO!!!! That is what I am doing!!! )

So, after 20 minutes of this I finally called and managed to get through to a real person...They had no idea what the problem was and, to mollify me, went ahead and did it over the phone... they gave me lousy seats (row 27 - back of the bus!!). When she got home she called to find out how to print off the boarding passes since this had been a telephone procedure... they were totally unhelpful and they finally (I am sure just to shut her up) gave her row 11 and emailed the passes to her.

Good grief...
