Air Tran from Flint, MI

I had promised a summary of our experience of flying Air Tran from Flint last month.

In a word, it was flawless. We stayed overnight at the Travelodge across the street (the motel's a bit of a dump) because we had the 7:30am direct flight the next morning. It takes less than 2 minutes to drive from the motel to the terminal and I was able to drop off the rest of the clan, park in the Economy Lot, grab the shuttle bus, and return to the terminal in less than 10 minutes. We were able to prebook our seats online the night before and had absolutely no problems at check-in.

Flights both ways departed right on time, and on the return flight we were on our way home less than 20 minutes after touchdown (including time to retreive the van from the lot). Economy parking for 11 days was $42.

Would we fly Air Tran from Flint again? Without hesitation.

Mikej: Thanks for the info. If I ever fly again I would like to try Bishop. I can get there in 15 minutes and not have to deal with dtw. If you do use bishop again there are some very nice hotels just a few minutes away, I believe they may also have airport shuttles. If you ever need the hotel info(name & phone no.) just let me know and I will get the info for you and whoever else may need this. Susan

Thanks Mike! We will be flying first time out of Flint and first time with AirTran, Non Stop Nov 15! We usually fly Spirit out of DTW. How do they compare (if you've ever flown Spirit)? How big is the plane (2 seats aisle 3 seats)? Glad all went well!

Most (if not all) of their existing fleet is Boeing 717s, which is basically the same configuration at the DC9/MD80 (3-2, 2-2 in first class). We flew Spirit a couple of years ago, and the Air Tran planes are newer and cleaner. We also had a problem with seat assignments on Spirit (they had us sitting in the galley!) which had to get sorted out once everyone was on-board. No such problems with Air Tran.

We also just flew air tran, 7:30 flight we stayed the night before at the wingate in in Grand Blanc about 5 mins from airport, Free shuttle and free breakfast @ 5 a.m. ( we ate with the flight crew) No trouble with the flight down arrived early, On the way home Fri night direct at 7:30 ish are flight was cancelled due to manically promblems, Air tran put us up at marriott in a suite, with 10 dollars each person food vochers for dinner and breakfast, and 7 dollar vochers for snack's at the airport, they also gave us each 1 round trip airline ticket, that we can transfur to someone else free.

We were very happy with then I have flown northwest and spirt and will never go back

Thanks for the reassuring post. We will be taking Airtran for the first time, out of Dayton in Nov. Especially welcome is hearing that you had no problem with web checkin seat assignments, after the problems Barb (inkkognito) has been having with ATA.
