We did this past May. When I originally booked our trip my husband was scheduled to work that weekend. He'd already talked to a coworker who had agreed to switch weekends with him. (They do this all the time and it's never been a problem). For some reason, his boss decided to be a horse's rear end this time and told him they couldn't switch. So when we booked the flights, we booked me to fly out early on Saturday morning and him early on Monday. Almost immediately after we paid for our flights, his boss told him he was just kidding and he could switch weekends.

Knowing how lenient Air Tran is, I waited, hoping they'd change the departure time, so I could switch my husband's flight for free. After months, our return flight changed by like four minutes, but his departure never changed. I finally gave up and called, asking how much it would cost to switch him from his Monday morning flight to my Saturday flight, fully expecting to pay out the wahooz. I told the Customer rep that I just wanted to see how much it would cost me, laughed, and said that if it was too much he'd just have to wait until Monday to fly out. The customer rep said 'no, lets see what we can do'. He put me on hold, came back a few minutes later to tell me the departing flight had not had any changes but the flight back had changed by four minutes, which didn't help me. I already knew that.

He again put me on hold and said to let me see what he could do. He came back on a few minutes later and told me that not only had he done a courtesy move to put my husband on my flight, but he'd also placed him in the seat next to me in row 13. Because I like sitting close to the front and want boarding zone 1, I always pay for those $15.00 or $13.00 seats. My husband doesn't care where he sits, so I had just bought him one of those $6.00 seats further back. Not only was I not charged the change fee, I was not charged for the more expensive flight, nor was I charged for the seat upgrade.

I love Air Tran.
Other people have posted here on the DIS where they have changed their flights, changed the days they were flying, and even changed airports if Air Tran makes even a few minutes change to their schedule. It doesn't matter if the new flight is more expensive or even if they are switching from a flight with a layover to one that's nonstop. Air Tran is wonderful to work with. I'm really dreading Southwest taking over.

Unfortunately Air Tran will no longer be flying out of DFW after Nov 22nd, so I won't be able to use them anymore.
