Air Tran boarding booked through SW

I have purchased tickets through SW, and the first leg of our flight down to FLL is via Air Tran. I have also purchased Early Bird for my dd and dh. But it appears that the Early Bird only applies to the SW legs of the flight.

My question....dd has a broken arm and wishes to sit in the aisle for comfort. Is it true that Air Tran assigns seats, and if so, what is the best way for her to get an aisle seat? As far as I know we will get a seat assignment when we do online check in with the SW website. Can anyone clarify?

AirTran assigns seats. When I checked in 24 hours ahead I was assigned and I could change seats like other non-SWA airlines. You probably can go into resev sooner and select seats as well as pay add'l for seat assignments. I would call airline or go online and review reservation now to see if you can select seat now.

You can select seats in advance for a fee. This is explained on Southwest's website. You can check there for details. If you don't want to pay, AirTran will assign seats for you 24 hours before your flight departure.

I don't think an aisle seat would be the best if you have a broken arm, assuming that arm would be on the aisle. You're always being bumped as people board.
