Air the laundry

So just wondered how you all feel about the news that we maybe able to hang the Laundry outside to dry soon.?
Where I live it was against the by-law but looks like that is going to change.

I love it...I live in a townhouse complex and it is not allowed. We do it anyways in the summer. We get hassled from the landlord about it, but who cares??

It's better for the environment and my hydro bills.

Love it..just waiting for the warm weather to arrive so I can have that fresh smell on my sheets.

Weird. I have been hanging my laundry out for the whole 8 years I lived in Calgary and they actually encourage it here.

We live in a rural area, and hanging out the laundry is a normal part of spring/summer/fall. I love the fact our hydro bill drops dramatically, and every penny counts in our household!!

Was very happy to hear other communities will be able to air their laundry now too

I've tried..I really have. I live in a rural area and there is a clothes line in the house we bought this year but with a family of 6 it just doesn't dry fast enough! I should at least do the bedding but the few times I've hung it out a lot fell off! Darn windy up here!

I gave up when I lived next to an italien couple that made their own wine. They grew their own grapes in the backyard. At the time I was using cloth diapers (as my first born did not tolerate disposables) and although they were white when I bought them - they developed purple polka dots thanks to the birds!

We live in rural Nova Scotia. I couldn't believe it when a friend in Ontario said they weren't allowed to have a clothesline! Hanging out the laundry is just such a part of our household routine, I can't imagine not being allowed to do it! Yikes.. I can't imagine what the power bill would be like if the dryer was going all year long! You would think there would be a push to encourage people to use clotheslines to help reduce energy consumption!

I read a really cute little book a few years ago about the "culture" of clotheslines. If anyone is interested, it's a nice little read. It would likely be easier to find at a library in Atlantic Canada, but if you could always ask your local library to request one for you through inter-library loan. I think the key to hanging laundry successfully is hanging it right. My mom taught me, her mom taught her, etc. I find that on a nice sunny day that the clothes, including cloth diapers, dry faster than in the dryer on a humid day. Also, the house stays cooler. And that fantastic smell! Mmmmm. I find that the sun bleaches out even the most stubborn diaper stain, almost before your eyes. I don't have a line because of the configuration of our backyard, but I have two nice IKEA metal hanging racks that hold about 2 loads of laundry (or one from our super-sized HE front loader that I adore).

I like to hang out our clothes, but since all of us have allergies, the allergist has told us not to. I still hang out some, just not the bedding. I also have a clothes line in our laundry room, so I hang a lot of clothes up inside in the winter. Our laundry room and furnace room are together, so the nice moist warm air is then circulated around the house.

I hang the laundry out as often as I can in the summer. DW thinks it's a pain, but I like saving electricity and $$$.

Lived in Ontario all my life and we don't hang out clothes out anymore (towels we do), but when I was younger I remember having a clothesline. I didn't know we couldn't.

I do live in a townhouse complex and we are not allowed. The property manager came and told us it was against bylaw to hang laundry out to dry. So when she tells us to take it down we do, and then it goes right back up again.

No one that lives here complains, just the property manager.

We are all very happy here now that it is LEGAL for us to save money and help the environment.

I think it is ridiculous that we could not hang clothes outside in some parts of Ontario. Can’t wait to put up a clothes line.

I hang most of my clothes in the laundry room to dry anyway so they don't shrink. Being able to hang them outside in the summer would be nice.
