Air Purifier Recommendations?

Hi All -

I did a search but couldn't find any recent threads that discussed this, so I'm posting a new one.

We're looking to buy a air purifier for my daughter's bedroom. She has allergies and she wakes up every morning with a sneeze fest.

From my minimal research, I know we need a HEPA filter. I don't think we want any ionization models (ozone problems).

However, there are so many companies and models that it's hard to decide without firsthand experience.

Can anyone here recommend a decent air purifier that works and is not too noisy?

We found this one at Costco but the filters cost $50 each and needs to be replaced every 6 mos. Is that normal?

I highly recommend Purifiers by IQAir:

They're made in Switzerland and are very high quality. The base model has a prefilter which is changed about every 18 months, and a HEPA filter that is changed every 2-4 years. It has a very high quality impeller (fan) which is reasonably quiet (it's only noticeable when the fan is set to the top 2 settings). You can add a gas filter that takes out many gaseous impurities. We recommended it to my FIL who has terrible hay fever that was making it difficult for him to sleep. He bought the IQ Air for his bedroom, problem solved. It's not the cheapest purifier around, but it's very well made and has excellent performance, we've been using it daily for almost 5 years.

I like that it has SOME noise when I run it -- I used to sleep with a fan on at night, and now I just use this. It has done a great job purifying the air in my small basement bedroom. I used to constantly cough down there -- clearly there was a high-level of allergens of some sort. Now, I have no problems and get a great night's sleep w/easy breathing.
