Sorry another post lol.

We are flying from Brisbane to LA with air New Zealand. We have a stopover in Auckland.

Just wondering if anyone who has flown with them could let me know when they will serve our meal? Will it be on the auck-la leg? We depart auck 9:30pm and arrive LA 2:45pm. Someone told me that they also serve a second breakfast meal before arriving in LA but not too sure of that's true?!

Thanks for your help!

Yeah you'll probably get "lunch" or something like that an hour or so after boarding. About 1 and a half hour to 2 hours before landing they'll then serve "breakfast". I have not flown AirNZ before but this is just based on all the flights I've taken to/from the US.

I flew with Air New Zealand via Auckland a couple of times to LA. We were given a meal between Australia and Auckland, then another just after take off in Auckland, a meal before we landed in LA and also offered numerous drinks and snack items during other times of the flight. I think we were offered sandwiches and ice creams during the night. :)

I echo this.

Between Aus and NZ, Air NZ usually serve light meals and/or snacks.

From memory you will get dinner at the start of the LA Leg and breakfast at the end. In between most people sleep. However, if you are awake, you can order drinks and snacks using the onboard entertainment system.

WE did the flight from Syd to LA air nz, must say they were excellent, especially with kids.
My son who was 11 at the time, was feeling quite sick , used to get motion sickness and the head purser kept coming down and checking on him. He asked him if he wanted to go with him to have a walk around the plane. So he got to see up stairs on the jumbo , didn't go in the cockpit, cause of security reasons.
Also on the flight to NZ and return the flight attendants asked my daughter if they wanted to help them and she got the job of walking up the aisles asking passengers if they would like some boiled sweets.
Would def fly with them again, but the flight is a bit longer adding the leg to Auckland, though we only had a 2 hour stop over there

Hi Living for Disney,
We are flying with them late July, MEL - AKL. Our stopover will also only be 2hr may I ask what you did during the stopover and would you do that again or would you suggest something else if you had to do it all over again.

Thank you in advance :thumbsup2

HI, well the 2 hrs passed pretty quick, we were left off the plane and the area where we waited wasn't very big, so we had a look in some of the duty free shops, kids got Burger King , I got a scotch from the bar and we just sat and watched at the windows planes on the tarmac lol.
We all went to the loo and by then , they were calling the flight.
They called families with children to board first, so that was good , we got on and got settled pretty quick.
One thing though if you buy duty free alcohol in Aus, they took those people aside , when we got off the plane , cause you are not supposed to have that much in liquids.
The last 2 times we flew Virgin Aust. I would go again on Air NZ if the price was right, but it was a very long day, with the stop in NZ.

BTW, I did get some NZ dollars , before leaving to use at the airport on the way there an back. They did take US dollars in the duty free shops

We also found the stopover went really quickly. I dont recall us walking around etc, we did on the way home though. As they served us food on the way over to NZ we didnt get anything to eat while there. I found that by the time we got off the plane then went to the gate we needed, We also had a drug and bomb and everything test done to us, and for all six of us it did take a while. There was a huge line behind us:) We only really sat and waited what seemed to be about 30 minutes before boarding. That time was broken up by toilet breaks. I think this is when the kids used their ipods etc the most. then and also waiting for the return flight in LA - so annoying that the flights leave so late at night.

We also got another meal on the flight once we left NZ and then breaky just before landing.

In my experience Air NZ is the best airline out there, followed very closely by Singapore Airlines. Qantas is so far down the list it isn't even ON my list!

I'd pick Air NZ every time if we could, but this time we're flying Virgin Aust. from Brisbane to San Francisco (via LAX) and then LAX-Brisbane. I've flown Virgin domestically within Australia and haven't been too excited by them. What are they like internationally for economy? Do they have in-seat entertainment and the in-seat food ordering system? I usually come off my Air NZ and Singapore Airlines flights feeling as though I don't need to eat for a week afterwards as I'm so full.

I agree , think air NZ are great.
The first time we flew with VA to LAX and return, the plane lights in side are pinks, blue & purple, they even had a Ladies only toilet which was wonderful.
I found the crew very good and friendly.
They have the screens in the back of the seats.
On the flight over, I think we had a "new" crew, they were nice but very, very slow to pick up the trays and also didn't hand out the immigration cards to fill out until the plane was descending. As I had to fill in 3, I left it till we got off the plane and filled them out in the terminal.
They have areas in the plane, where they have packets of chips & cans of drinks, self service. There always seemed to be stuff there , if you couldn't sleep & felt hungry.
Going home no problems.
Last year flew with them again , both times excellent.
We also had internal flights to NY & Orlando with Delta, found them excellent.

Sorry, have never seen the in food ordering system on a plane, but VA dont have it, they just ask you what u want out of I think 3 choices.
Was glad last year, didn't have to fill out those immigration forms , only one per family for ?agriculture. LOL cant think what it was

We are flying Air New Zealand to Disney in Oct 14 With the Auckland-San Fransisco on ANZ and San-Fransisco-Orlando on United but all under the ANZ ticket. We are thinking we might like to purchase another bag while over in America and bringing it back. ( my mother loves to shop :) ) Does anyone know how much that would be likely cost? The ANZ and United websites are not clear to me on this

I can't help with the baggage question - but had to pop in and say we leave the same day as you!

We are flying MEL-LAX-MCO (all with United) on the 14th of October!

If all the flights have ANZ numbers it should be an additional $150 US for the additional bag.

Should add you pay at each stopover but I think you can get it cheaper if you pre-pay. Maybe someone who's done this will be able to chime in?

We flew Virgin the first time we went to the US, and were very happy with them. Unfortunately we had to sit right down the back of the plane, but it ended up being quite good because there were only 2 seats on the window. They had all the usual in seat entertainment, meals etc that you would expect for a long haul flight, the plane was nice, seats were as comfy as they could be. The only issue I had with them was that our dinner wasn't cooked all the way through (they had miscounted the meals or something and didn't have enough for the last 3 rows, so they were cooked in a hurry), and it was chicken so not real good :scared: Neither of us got sick though so all's well that ends well. And it wouldn't have been an issue at all if we weren't so far up the back of the plane.

We're very seriously considering ANZ for our next trip, so I'm pleased to hear all the positive feedback :thumbsup2

The only prob with Air NZ now, they only allow one checked bag each, when we flew with them it was 2 each.
You are allowed 2 with VA

We tend to travel light so not an issue at all for us :thumbsup2 We could probably get away with one suitcase between us if we had to.

Coming back from our recent 2 week trip to Asia (so including shopping etc while over there, plus big heavy hiking boots), my suitcase was only half full and weighed 12kg.

Plus, we're thinking of doing the return leg in premium economy (I love that you can do a split cabin booking with ANZ :goodvibes other airlines take note!) so if we do happen to go completely nuts with the shopping, we'll get 2 bags each on the way home.

Air NZ is the best ! We have flown all 3 classes over the last several years to LAX, and love flying with them:thumbsup2
