Air Miles flight at Christmas time

i have got flights to Orlando at Christmas time numerous times using Airmiles but have noticed the last few years that they are very limited. Is there any secret that people are aware of. I am planning on going on Dec 17 and returning to Toronto on Either Jan 1'st or 2'nd. When the 12/17 departure date is available but it is two weeks till the return segment (1/1 or 1/2) becomes available I am afraid that all the flights will be gone. Do people do one way segments or is there a secret to this. Thanks

Wait the two weeks until your return flights become available. Very few people book almost a year in advance for flights. I have found with Airmiles recently that flight availability opens up later on. I have been tracking flights from Ottawa to Orlando for a while now. When flights opened up I could get flights on Air Canada only then those disappeared and flights were available on Delta now I can get flights on WestJet, Air Canada and Delta. I don't know what they do when they release flights but its all over the map. You've got lots of flight options leaving from Toronto.

Doing two one way segments will end up costing you more Airmiles than a round trip booking.
