Anyone use air miles to rent a car?
To make a long story even longer, we are cruising out of Miami but flying from Fort Lauderdale. Wanted to rent a car, Alamo has good rates and a shuttle to get back to the rentals which is almost unheard of for Miami. Only problem is the air miles site does not let you add the insurance.
I really don't care about third party insurance or my credit card's insurance I know all about that and I don't use it. Has anyone rented using air miles and can you add the insurance once you get to the rental counter?
:drive:

Can't speak to Airmiles, but I've used my Aeroplan miles to book a rental car at WDW my last 4 trips. With Aeroplan you still have the option to add any &/or all options like collision damage waiver, GPS, roadside assistance, etc... at the counter at pick up at your own cost, not covered by Aeroplan.

Ya found out the same. You can add it at the counter when you pick up the car. Only thing is it was a better deal to deal directly with Alamo. But the the other half of the trip, FLL to MIA the cars are really expensive. 170 dollars compared to 500 miles. For this one we used air miles.

A quick call to the company you have you car insurance with might be the easiest solution. I called and asked if we would be covered (assumed so since our coverage includes a rental car if we have an accident and car isn't drivable") Her reaction? Just don't rent a hummer cause your coverage is up to $50,000.00 :rotfl2:

You & I must be with the same insurance company. lol! :). That is exactly what my agency told me this past August! Then he offered to email me a form for the car rental agency (Hertz) to show proof of coverage & the details of coverage.
