Hey gang,

From your experience with WDW tickets through Airmiles do you guys use them before upgrading them to add days/hoppers??

Thanks!

In the past I used the tickets before upgrading as suggested. This past March I was going to Orlando (no WDW :scared1:) so I decided that since I had enough AM to get the tix I wanted I would get them and price the upgrade....I wanted to hopefully avoid an August price increase. I went to DTD guest services and asked what the cost would be....I was quoted the exact amount that I had priced from the WDW website. So I went ahead and did the upgrade.

I used mine before upgrading but when I went to the ticket window they told me because it was a discounted ticket they would have to bring it up to gate price before upgrading.

Once a ticket has been used it is at gate price....so that sounds like another example of a CM being misinformed.

After doing my own upgrade I don't think that the AM tickets are discounted....that has been debated a few times before on here. There have been quite a few people that have upgraded before using with success.

::yes::

This past January I had a 5-day airmiles ticket that I was hoping to upgrade to a 10-day non-expiring hopper. I priced out the gate prices so that I would know what the difference should be. After using the ticket once, I went to guest services in Magic Kingdom. The price they were quoting was far more than I was expecting. I decided against upgrading.

Did you account for the tax???

As I previously stated I did exactly what you wanted to do...minus using the ticket first. I redeemed my AM for 7 day premium tickets then went to GR at DTD and upgraded my tickets to 10 day. The cost was exactly the amount I looked at on the WDW website. I fully expected there to be an additional charge because I was not going to use the tickets first.....there was not.

Yup - included the tax. I'm sure it was an error by the castmember. It all worked out okay - we bought into DVC and so for our next trip we'll be buying those DVC discounted annual passes. :cool1:

This January I upgraded my Airmiles tickets to AP and got the DVC discount on it. It's so nice to have a ticket for our September trip.
