I think I've won the award for hottest so far! Keeping it at 80 seems to be higher then most here. Actually I usually don't even turn it on until it gets into the upper 80s.
Ain't that the truth. I always heard that it's differences in religion, money and child-rearing that will bring down a marriage.
For us it's been "who changed the thermostat?", "where does the furniture go in the living room?", and "where do we eat on Thanksgiving?" Minefields for sure! It took us 8 years of marriage and at least two rounds of marital counseling to solve those three questions.
Yes. It would feel fantastic. Thankfully, it doesn't often get that hot here (St. Louis) in terms of actual temperature, but the heat index normally hits that level several times per summer. You walk out the door and feel immediately like you've been wrapped head to toe in a sweaty horse blanket. Blech. I hate summer.
We're close. A/C is 77-78 or so and heat is 64-68. We love lower electric bills...Spend lots of our summer time in our basement which is cool almost year-round.
During this ungodly heat spell we've been having here, I've had mine as low as it will go - 60 degrees - with the ceiling fan running in the same room.. Of course you need to understand that this is actually a "seasonal" home, so there's no insulation, no basement, etc.. Normally it will stay pretty decent in here (blinds and door closed - as well as very little sun hitting my place) until around 3 p.m. or so and then it's suddenly like an oven and that's when I have to turn the a/c and fan on and leave it on all night..
Luckily I'm on a budget plan here for my electricity, so I can spread the cost out over 12 months so it isn't quite so painful.. But even if I couldn't, nothing would change.. Physically (medically), I "need" the a/c to be on, so I just deal with the cost - regardless of what it is..
Interesting how different people are.
We keep ours at 68/69 year round. I cannot sleep if it is over 70*. I wake up all sweaty. I guess my internal thermostat is VERY sensitive. Actually, the colder the better.
We installed a new heating/air cond system in NOvember so this will be our first summer season with the ac and I am soooo looking forward to being cool this year. We used to rely only on floor fans in 90+ summer
We will probably keep the cooling set to 77 and then lower it if the outside temps go higher than 83. Will also be closing the drapes in the living room window to help keep the room cooler.
