Oreck or Sharper Image or other????
Anyone have any advice or experience with any of these??? I want to get one, but I know I should buy at least 2 to have any benefit in my house, but they are awfully expensive.
Has anyone bought one of these and really noticed any difference?
TIA !!!

I heard something about the Sharper Image and it having a problem with OZONE! The Oreck is supposedly very noisy and you have to replace the filters a lot.

That's the one I have (350 sq. ft) and I LOVE it! It automatically scans the air and tells you the quality and it WORKS -- I can spray an aerosol can in the room and a minute late the quality meter changes, or I can shred some paper and the quality meter changes (who knew shredding paper affected air quality!) It also comes with a UV germicidal light and auto feature that adjusts the speed based on the air quality. Sorry to talk it up, I'm just very pleased with my purchase! The HEPA filter needs to be replaced once a year and they recommend changing the carbon filter every 3 months.

it must be good...I checked the web site and it is out of stock!!!
What did you hear about the problem with the Sharper Image and the ozone???? My mom has one in every room in her house!

I don't personally have one, but I know Consumer Reports consistently rates all Sharper Image air clearners as the worst out there. Consumer Reports basically says the Sharper Images ones don't remove any dirt or particles from the air and are basically worthless. Sharper Image advertises how quiet their air cleaners are and that is because there is no fan in them and that is the big problem according to Consumer Reports. No fan=no way to move the air through the air cleaner. I just find the Consumer Reports ratings interesting because of how popular Sharper Image seems to be and how much advertising you see for Sharper Image.

Other. We have allergies in our family so I have an electronic air cleaner thru our heating/cooling system. It handles the entire house pretty well! The filters and panels are washable.

I've used the Sharper Image one for several years, and never understood the Consumer Reports review of it. Maybe it doesn't move air as swiftly as ones with fans, but living in a very dusty location, and being a smoker, believe me, it does work.
