Air Canada didn't make the deadline...

I bought plane tickets to Orlando for our cruise next March so I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well.

I heard that they had come to an agreement but not announcing until the members could see.

Still Keeping Fingers Crossed as we are also booked on AC for our Halloween Trip!

And I would also like to use them for our Repositionin Cruise too!

Time will tell

They've reached agreements with I think 7 of the unions but the CAW is still holding out. Their spokesperson says they "will not agree to wage cuts". For some reason Air Canada is still optimistic that it can be resolved. Plus the fact that they are beyond their deadline, and nothing is being said about how that will affect things.

At least if something happens, you'll have time to get on a different flight for Halloween. I'll be happy to get my one trip in the way things are going around here.

I am in the planning stage for a trip this fall. I was planning on cashing in my Airmiles. There are other carries (AA and NWA) that service MCO with Airmiles but AC is the only one with direct flights. Will wait a bit before I book it.

I'm waiting too but I think AC will be okay. Deutsche Bank has said "no"yet-they want them to cut a pile more expenses though.

Too bad you're in Toronto. I've been looking at Spirit out of DTW for our repositioning cruise flights, and their fares (DTW-LAX, MCO-DTW) are very reasonable. I just can't yet book 15 months ahead. ;)

DD wants to travel First Class!

:faint:

She claims she can't travel that long in Economy!LOL

I'd look somewhere besides AC. Just read an article from the Toronto Sun... Deutch Bank and GE are likely to walk away, and at that point who wants to invest in AC? There is still a chance apparently that the judge could impose the wage cuts that are needed, but what good does that do if they don't have an investor anymore?

They could start selling things off within weeks without financial backing. Doesn't look good at this point, if you can wait to book your trip, do it. Our TA is still optimistic but I have my doubts. However, I have bigger concerns so I'll let the TA figure out how we're getting to Disneyland. I don't care how at this point, just get me there. ;)

If AC goes under we can all send cards of Thanks to CAW President Buzz Hargrove. His attitude was that the CAW has already given up enough and so what if Air Canada was liquidated if the CAW didn't give up more (as the other unions did) -- the CAW workers could always find other jobs. (preferably jobs which pay union dues to keep paying his $100K+ salary) Thanks Basil!!

My thinking exactly. Absolutely ridiculous. Maybe they should be comparing their wages after the pay cuts to what they would get on EI and see how that pay cut would suit them.

Almost frightening that one union could bring an airline down, and put around 30,000 people out of work - even temporarily.

Well-I'm holding my breath-just put a deposit down on an Air Canada Flight for October.

By the way, America West has a nice first class from YYZ to SNA for $100 per person more (if available at check in). It was great!!

Geez, what an option........

No Job or Keep your Job at a slightly lower rate?

Can we say.............

"Do You Want Fries With That!"

It's not surprising, considering it's coming from Basil Hargrove. This is the same fellow who thinks it is sound economic policy for governments to bribe automobile companies to keep factories open instead of making the automobile companies depend on productivity and profit.

Well, one last effort-let's see what happens today. AC supposed to present FINAL offer to CAW at 8:00am.

And they have until noon Toronto time to respond.

Some of them could be asking "do you want fries with that" fairly soon.... maybe one of them should be this Hargrove character.

Mom_rules, if this doesn't work out you have time to find another flight, anyway.

Keeping my fingers crossed but not expecting much. If they're going to blow it I would almost prefer they do it sooner rather than later. I just made arrangements for the final payment to be made on our trip. (I had to do some transferring today to make sure the money is where it needs to be when it needs to be)

CAW turned down the offer, they're meeting again at 3PM.

... "final offer", "final deadline"... but they're still meeting. No wonder the CAW is still playing games, they know they can.

To be honest if they would do away with the service charges etc we have to pay up here to fly I would consider flying to Florida from London or Toronto or Hamilton but why pay an extra 300 or more dollars to fly from here when I can drive a little over 2 hours and fly for far less. With the way AC has operated I would not be suprised to see them close their doors and it would look good on them to. I hope for everyone who is travelling with them if this does happen you get all your money back.

Another day of waiting!

Does anyone know the specifics re: Term and Conditions if
you use a credit card to pay and the service is not provided, will you get your $ back?

Check with you credit card company, but I think what happens is you would get a credit from your company and they would fight it out with AC. But double check with your credit card company - I could be wrong in the case of bankruptcy or some other interruption in service. And I think if you've booked online, your chances are slim. I was told that if you booked online on your own, not through a TA, you don't get your money back.

Let us know what you find out. And I think we'll be waiting until at least Friday - their next court day, and the end of this current round of bankruptcy protection.
