i am starting to try work out some sort of route for our road trip next Aug and have started having a look at hotels , i have seen lots withing our budget for anywhere except Miami

Have found some more reasonable riced accommodation on air bnb just wondered if anybody has used this site for booking there usa holidays or anywhere else really

I just used it for a weekend trip to Disneyland Paris. I found an amazing little 2 bedroom apartment, in a modern new build, which had a terrace overlooking the castle and fireworks. It was just minutes from Disney. It cost us £53/night and the host even left us a bottle of wine. All in all, I was very happy with it. However, be warned, although the host was only charging £53/night, after AirBnB applied their fees, it rocketed up to around £100/night. For short stays, the fees make the nightly cost way more expensive than the list price shows. For long stays, as the fees are spread over a longer period, its not so much of an issue. That said, even for £100/night, the place we got was amazing. It was so close to Disneyland, we could even hear the railroad train bell and some of the music!

The other thing to be aware of is that the host could cancel your booking at the last minute - this is extremely rare, but you should be aware that its always a possibility. So you may wish to research a backup plan should your reservation fall through.

I tried to use them for Amsterdam last New Year. Tried to book numerous apartments but gave up in the end. The owners either didn't reply or replied with things like I had to book 7 nights minimum(only wanted 3 nts) or price was higher than quoted etc. Put me off trying them again.

ok well its one to consider, i am going to leave it another month or so then start proper searching. i have spoken to a few smaller hotels in the keys i fancy via facebook and they dont release there availibility until 300 days out

My brother uses Airbnb all the time for the US and he loves it. He road tripped with some friends from Miami up to Kentucky via New Orleans and used Airbnb at every stop. He also used to use it a lot in San Francisco when he was working there. He only had great experiences and found the landlords really helpful about the areas they were staying. He much prefers using Airbnb to a hotel
