Since it's Tuesday, I have American Idol on the brain this morning. So I'm listening to some music and I get a funny idea and I thought it might make a good game.

What would happen if you put one of our well-known or legendary, even, rock stars on the AI stage - minus their notoriety and fame? What would they sing, and what would the judges say?? And for an added bonus...what would singer's response be to the judges?

Here goes...

We have Freddie Mercury singing "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

Randy: "Aright I gotta be honest, it was a little low, a little pitchy at first. Not sure I'm crazy about the song choice. It's like a little old for me, a little too like Elvis, you know. But you pulled it off in the end, you got it together"

Paula: "What can I say, I'm a fan. I love your voice - you've got the look you have a real stage presence. You're going to go all the way. Good job."

Simon: "I'm going to disagree with Paula - I do not care for the look. It's like you're going too far with the macho look and then you get the movements all wrong. The prancing - it's too ...feminine ... for the look. (crowd boos) Vocally you're more suited to be an opera singer, but I just don't think you have what it takes to be in this competition sorry."

Freddie's response...oh I cant say but I'm certain it would begin with an F and would just direct it to all of them because...why not?

So...you can do better than that!! What would they say about Mick Jagger :rotfl2:

I've wondered about this myself!

When they have past winners come back to sing, I often wonder what's going on in that brain of Simon's!

Well, they earned it and they can screw up as much as they want I guess! :rotfl2:

I don't normally watch that show, I think it's not a fair representation of the music industry, and forces too many young talents to be something they aren't.

However, last year a long haired hippie boy caught my ear and I did watch a few episodes. I did a little research and listened to some MP3's of original music by his band, which was very good. I listened to him sing about Sweet Home Alabama with some "good ole boy's" from Gainesville, and thought--"Wow, he's amazing".

And he didn't win. And I was happy for him.

He got a record deal. He put out a CD. And I was disappointed. I reviewed that CD. It only got three of five stars, because every "big name" in the industry had contributed to it, but it wasn't his sound, it was the sound the label wanted him to have. And that's a damn shame. But I think the judges would have liked the CD because it was a polished, slick, hit machine, radio friendly sound.

I agree Anne. If that long-haired boy can return to his own sound, I think that he might have a good shot at real success.

As for rock stars of today being on American Idol, I wonder how someone like Dave Mathews would fare? He has a real unusual voice that people seem to either love or hate. What about Johnny Revznik? (sp) Or Rob Thomas? I think that they'd really go after Bono. As much as I love him, I think that he hits quite a few offkey notes.

Then there's country, I imagine that Garth Brooks or Kenny Chesney would pretty much wipe everyone else out since they're more mainstream.

I'm up for it!

Mick Jagger singing "Ben" by Micheal Jackson

Randy: "Aright I gotta be honest, it was a little low, a little pitchy at first. Not sure I'm crazy about the song choice. Wadda you think Dog Pound? But you pulled it off in the end, you got it together"

Paula: "What can I say, I'm a fan. I love your voice - you've got the look you have a real stage presence. You're going to go all the way. Good job."

Simon: "I'm going to disagree with Paula - quite honestly, you are just not very good looking. You belted it out with that gravelly voice, and really it was just horrible. I just don't think you have what it takes to be in this competition sorry."

Mick: Simon, watcha doin later?? I know this guy...

How about Paul McCartney?

LOL, I've actually wondered this myself. I was listening to Janis Joplin the other day and commented about how it was obvious most people were on drugs back in her day to have listened to her. (although, I like her and don't do drugs, lol) Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson are others that I think would fail miserably on AI. As for Dave Mathews, I can't stand his voice. UGH! That would be a fun interview question to ask them.

I thought the same thing about Bono. Man, he sells out stadiums, but if you put him on the AI stage doing the same performances that makes 20,000+ people scream - Simon would tear him apart. And Randy would have a new use for his favorite word, "pitchy."

This is Lzzy Hale from a new band on Atlantic called Halestorm.

She is perhaps the single most exciting and talented new artist I've seen in three years--and if you know anything about me you know that is an impressive place to be.

Let's say she performed Heart's "Heartless".

Randy: "Wow, you're great! You've got it all, the look, the voice is amazing! I don't really like your shirt. Your song choice is a bit different than most people would choose, but it worked."

Paula: "Dynamite voice but you were maybe a little too powerful at points. You were very intense, I was a little afraid at times. I love your boots by the way."

Simon: "Why do non-blondes even bother to try on this show. It doesn't matter if you've got talent and can sing, if your not going to let us cut your hair and make you into America's Barbie, it won't work. I think no."

Lzzy: "Thanks Randy and Paula, Simon you're a *(*&*(&^, (*&(*, I*&(*&, &(*& who needs to *&^( your (*&^(&*."
