AI: Did Anyone Else Notice Something Weird About Wednesday Night?

There's a really nasty rumor on the Fox AI board. Now while I don't normally give the chatter over there much notice, the fact is that something was a bit off when they announced that Mandisa was leaving. The audience got deathly quiet and the the other contestants looked pale. Taylor stopped in the middle of clapping for Elliott like someone had pulled his plug.

The rumor is that someone or ones in the audience called Mandisa the N word. Even thought this is a supposed "Live" show, there still is a delay of a few seconds so they would have had time to edit it out.

I didn't TIVO the show so I can't look back but I was just telling my husband about this and even he, who claims he hates the stupid show , said he noticed something wasn't right after the announcement that Mandisa was leaving.

Sad when people have to be so incredible stupid to get their 2 seconds of notoriety. Mandisa was a class act all the way.

I noticed how deathly quiet it got and the looks on peoples' faces but I just assumed it was because they were so shocked it was her. I so hope that was all. I would hate to think someone would dare yell that word.

Hey guys, I couldn't believe what happened the other night..I just got back today from California (Visiting family while they were on spring break) and we went to the results show because they had been on the waiting list since the beginning of last season. I just realized that some of you figured something was edited. Well I can tell you what happened...there were a group of 3 or 4 girls, by the looks they were white and Hispanic teenagers...anyway, when Ryan announced that Mandisa was gone, they jumped up and were throwing their hands up yelling "Bye Bye N___er" and "Go Home N___a"..in fact you can hear the last time it was said like some of you have pointed out...it was total shock in that room, guys..those girls were jerked out of that room faster than you could blink, but it had all already been said and had it's affect..needless to say, the mood of the whole place sunk and it never did regain the excitement...we were all left with sick feelings in our stomachs..there were several people that could be seen that had been crying, whether from anger or frustration..it was sad..We Love You Mandisa!

Some of the folks on the AI board say they can actually hear what was said when they play back the recording. Like I said, the only thing I'm sure of is that something did indeed happen during that show.

I just listened to it again, eight times. Absolutely nothing like that was audible, whatsoever, in the play-back.

I also cannot hear anything for sure. Here's the exit tape with the East Coast feed. Folks on the west coast basically saw none of this.

On a slow-news-week, they'll make-up news. It's like the whole Mandisa is anti-gay thing -- even though she said nothing of the sort.

Thank you for the clip ~ in watching it, I would say that definitely YES something was said. We can't hear it but the way everyone just froze & the look of shock was amazing. Something totally different than just the realization that Mandisa was ousted. Watch the clip carefully & see how the audience was going on with their reaction & then suddenly everyone seemed to have frozen & look at all the facial reacation. Look at the judges faces. Paula said something to Randy or looked at him & she was in shock. Something happened. Not sure exactly what but if in fact someone did shout out those remarks, it would not be surprising looking at the audiences' reaction.

Mandisa was a class act & she was an awesome singer & performer (not to mention very beautiful). I hope if something like that really did happen from the audience that those stupid idiots were escorted out immediately.

I heard that Steven Spielberg called her & wants to use her in something he's producing (?) ~ anyone else heard that? She said that on some show (morning news?) that I was watching.

It looked like something happened for sure but who knows what. All I know is her being voted out totally upset my DH and I. We loved her, thought she was the top female and beautiful too. We are so bummed .

OH my! I thought this was just a rumor, but I just listened to the clip that Virgo10 posted and you can totally hear it. After they make the announcement, they show Elliott's family and you hear it right when the man in Elliott's family leans forward. Someone else listen and tell me if I'm just hearing it because I'm listening for it.

I noticed that it was total silence after Mandisa's name was announced. I also thought it was just total shock! Heck, I froze! I wasn't happy. I did not think it was her time to go. Yes, she didn't do a good job on the country song, but she can sing her tootsies off! I'd say better than some of those left in the competition. She would've done great singing Queen classic. Oh well, I hope she finds fame after American Idol. That would be great is Steven Spielberg uses her in something. She has such a sweet personality.

I thought it odd that they would zone in on Paris's family, as Elliott was the one left standing.

Yeah, but if if someone did blurt out a racial slur, every member of the audience, black, white, and in between, would have been freaking out. That kind of behavior doesn't cut it in civilized society anymore. Noone in the audience blinked, other than looking surprised at the decision, so odds are, it didn't happen.

Honestly I'm not so sure about everyone in the audience freaking out.

If it did happen... I'm guessing it happened very quickly and people would have been shocked, but if security was right there, what else would they do?
They know they're at a live show.

I would have expected everyone to turn their heads in the direction of the shouts/people being escorted out though and I'm not seeing that at all.
I can't hear anything on the playback either.

I certainly hope it's just rumor - but having lived in CA for many years I can certainly attest to there being plenty of racial tension there.

I don't believe it. For one thing does anyone think the rest of the audience would have been silent once that was blurted out? I'm sure the audience would have been in an uproar booing and probably grabbing the clown that did such a thing. Maybe the audience would have been stunned for 5 seconds but that's it. I played mine back and there was nothing in it.
