Ahoy! Sailing the Wonder 2/8/09

I don't do the fake nails, can't stand them either. My nails are very thin and the fake is too different to be comfortable. My Pedi always lasts at least three weeks, so that can be done early, toes will be good until we get home (what a sad thought, lol)

Mani will last about two weeks, with touch up. I just do a pale pink on the fingers. I bring the polish and remover wipes on the ship and do a touch up on the fingers. The french mani always peels off on my nails, so not much point.

Well if our conversations have turned from packing to mani/pedis then we MUST be in good shape. I too have my appointment set for next week - as well as a trim and color. My poor piggies have not seen the light of day since uuummmm, October, so my toes are dying to get out and be seen! I see no problems with the OCD lists - how in the world can 1 person be expected to remember everything! Without a list, I might forget to breathe! I hope you all have a great week!

With a good mani/pedi...my fingers last a week, but toes last a good three weeks before chipping. Sad thing is I have one scheduled for tomorrow am, but looks like I will have to cancel b/c of the snow...I can't take 3 kids with me. :rockband:

I have to get my mani/pedi too. I'm thinking next Saturday. My toes will be fine but I'll need another manicure before then. I always get clear on my fingers...I hate the look of chipping polish and I can't paint my own.

I'm debating get my highlights redone. I do need to get my hair cut. Ugh. Its so expensive to be a girl. ;)

It IS so expensive to be a girl! Even if we ARE so totally worth it princess:
I do the clear on my fingernails too. Mine are too beaten up to try to salvage. But my piggies will be spectacular (or at least they think they will be!) They have not seen sunlight since fall either! The last time I did a French manicure it peeled in less than 12 hours!:furious: I had a wedding to go to! Get the highlights Jill. ::yes::You are watching cruise picturs all week-you deserve highlights!

You are such an enabler....I already know I love you! princess:

Sounds like I need to make an appointment.

Jill

Glad I'm not the only one worried about such girly things! All 4 of us got Hair cuts last week, so we are good for that. I do need to color mine next week though. I think I'll try and go Tuesday or Wednesday for the nails. Thanks for all the info.

Me TOO!!!! I don't think I will have enough time away from kids to get a much needed hairdo. :( I haven't had anything done to my hair in about 3 years, so I think I need it!!! My daughter and I hope to get our pedi done maybe tomorrow. I can't wait to ask for Mickey on my toes!!! If we do get iced in maybe I could go get my hair done because DH wont be able to work outside.
My husband tried to tell me that we could finish clothes shopping tonight. After one hour at mall he wanted to leave. Oh well, I will go back tomorrow and try again. If I don't get everything on the list we would probably live...
By the way yesterday while packing I started venturing to the back of my closet. I found unspeakable horrors from the early 90's. Felt good to purge and I actually accomplished something not cruise related.

Just noticed that no one put a potd.

Good-bye Nassau

I just found more great tips!! The thread "Food for thought.." has a good discussion of food you don't want to miss. Also I found these I forgot to mention before:

preaddress labels for postcards (so i can leave the address book at home),

Buy your Castaway Cay Postcards at Mickeys Mates, and fill them out prior to leaving the ship for Castaway Cay...drop them off at post office first thing ...you'll save time ....also, the post office sometimes runs out of post cards...you'll need some cash for postage, so don't forget...

Put your shirt on a hanger...hang it in the bathroom while you shower and wa-la, no wrinkles!

This from someone else - I put both pillowcases in a ziploc bag with four different colored Sharpies. I also slipped in a piece of paper with my kids names, their ages, and our stateroom number on it. I didn't make any specific requests. I walked it down to Guest Services the first night. I was told I would get it back by the end of the cruise. You can take a pillowcase or picture frame or whatever to guest services at the beginning of the cruise and leave it with Sharpies and request just princesses, Fab 6 or all the characters sign it

You can order all the desserts at dinner! and double desserts too!

If you put your children in the Oceaneer's lab, it is highly probable that may not be the place you pick them up. The kids are continually moved from place to place, or are in transition - in which case you have to wait for the entire bunch to be moved before you can begin the checkout process. This is also the case at Castaway Cay. When you go to get your kids, they may be in the middle of a treasure hunt, for example.
The lesson here is, you can't expect to pickup your kids at the last moment if you are hoping to be somewhere at an exact time.

- take your own pics at EVERY opportunity that the photogs do or ask them to take the pics -- we didn't buy one single photo from shutters because ours were identical!

before you leave, if you have extra supplies, ask your servers or host if they would like them. My servers practically jumped up and down at the prospect of getting my shoe organizer! I wound up giving her the organizer, humidifier, full size conditioner, lysol and room fresheners. The crew doesn't get off the ship much, so they're very appreciative!

kids get a t-shirt and Mickey ear graduation hats for free from the Kid's club the day before the cruise ends. they are no replacement to buying the "real" tshirts they sell in the stores and at Castaway Cay.

don't bring a white board or water bottles -- they give them away for free in the kids' clubs and Ocean Quest--(I have not verified this)

Sorry about the potd gap, I've been without my regular laptop for several days now (I dropped it :scared: ).
Annette you are SO right we deserve it!princess: With all the planning, packing and cleaning we do, a few pence spent on looking gorgeous is well deserved!
12 days til we sail! :sail:

We are snowed in today with more snow and freezing rain to come--yuk,

For those worried about the mani--OPI has a product called "Chip Skip" that works wonders for me in making it last longer. I always take my own polish so that I have a matching shade to do any repairs. I had one last for 3 weeks on the Panama canal cruise + Disneyland before. Of course, they last better on the ship than at home!

A comment on the latest round of "hints"--they don't do the graduation from DCU any more. The program is based on School of Rock--so no Mickey graduation ears. They do get a t-shirt.

Yes, the crew appreciates your leftovers of laundry stuff, etc. that they otherwise have to buy on their precious little time in port. And it makes a little more space/less weight in your luggage. They also are allowed to eat your leftover birthday or anniversary cake if your table doesn't finish it and you offer it to them. Otherwise, they don't get our dining room food.

On that same thought--munchies are one of the best gifts for the Club/Lab workers. Think I'll pack while I can't get out?

dsjmeaders - How did you put the pic and words on? Did you make graphic like the stuff I've seen on making door magnets and then print on iron-on paper? I was up until 2:30am last night looking at door magnet graphics!

Yes, that is exactly what I did! It was a really big hit for my kids, and they kept them on their beds for a while. The sharpie held up well in the wash as well!

All this nail talk, we need some testerone in here...:rotfl2:

I am not sure if this has been talked about yet or not. Is anyone planning a trip to WDW before or after. We are season pass holders and since we are driving, I am contiplating a stop at the Magic Kingdom for the day since we get off the boat so early. Hang out there til dinner time or what ever than plan on doing the 20 drive back.

We will be at WDW on the 4th till we "ship" out. we will have one park day left if we are up for it on disembarktion day.

I'll be at WDW on the 7th and then spending the 12th-15th at WDW to do the parks.
