Ahoy! Sailing the Wonder 2/8/09

We'll be at the poly from the 5-8th, I hope that the crowds won't be too bad either. Last year we went on Jan 26th (before our last cruise) and the crowds were awful. I guess having a 4 month old with us didn't make it any better, but the crowds were worse than I expected. Hopefully everyone will come over superbowl weekend and be gone by the time we get there.

Just booked this cruise too 2/8/2009 Wonder- it is our first Disney cruise (and first cruise ever)- Cat 6 verandah s/r. Really looking forward to it (after one-year Army mobilization)- just me and my husband. Hope to meet you all there!!!

Disney is a great first cruise and fours day will be a great length to learn if you really are cruisers, DM (dear mom) and I did a three day DCL cruise as our first, we are cruise people, ah ha!

Ahoy and away we go, Anxiously awaiting our maiden Disney voyage aboard the Wonder hitting the open seas on Feb 8th and looking skyward the evening of the 12th upon returning to watch NASA launching other Panwannabe's into Space aboard the Shuttle. A magical time for my 5 year old little Buzz Lightyear fan, hope to enjoy a great 4 days on the seas and a glorious Space Launch scheduled for 11:00 PM the night of the 12th. We will be crossing our fingers for great weather and no delays for the shuttle launch!!!

Ahhh, My DH is going to be so mad that you mentioned that... Now I want to add another night to the end of the trip, so we can see the launch!! My DS9 (and DD7) would be fascinated by that!!! Do you think you can see it from the port area or would it be better to head toward Cape Canaveral?

Did I read that right? Are your family members going up in the shuttle???? That's amazing!!!

Welcome Panwannabe!

If you are in the parks for the launch, look over mission space at Epcot or over Tomorrowland at MK to view it. At downtown disney look towards Marketplace to see the show.

A launch from the port area is awesome! The last one I saw was on the Magic, the captain circle outside to of the port until launch time.

No family aboard the shuttle simply other grownups like myself who never wanted to grow up and are living their dream of still playing astronaut and going into space!! I grew up to be a fireman they grew up to be astronauts, I envy them all and I pray for their safety.

We will be staying in the Port Canaveral area the night we return from our cruise to watch the launch. I have been told one of the best places to watch the launch other than the Kennedy Space Center NASA causeway itself is right around the bend from the port for the cruise ships at Port Canaveral. Their is a little park right on the beach known as Jetty Park that has a direct line of sight down the coast to the north of Launch pad 39A where the shuttle is scheduled to launch from at 2300 hours February 12th.

We plan to stay in the area "walk" to the beach from our hotel to avoid any traffic and enjoy the launch. If all goes well no one will be disappointed, and if for some reason there is no launch well............ we will have just returned from a Disney Cruise so who could be mad!!!!:lmao

We are staying an additional night too and watching the launch... Maybe we'll tour the Space Center during the day when we get off the ship then see the launch that night... Woo Hoo!!!

I checked into going to the Kennedy Space Center on the day we land as well and dicovered that on days that the shuttle is scheduled to launch the center is closed for security reasons. There is a special pre purchased ticket that allows a few visitors to be escorted to a special viewing area for the launch itself but they are limited and not available yet. You might check the Kennedy Space center website for more details.
I just thought I would advise you of what I had found out so that you did not plan a part of your trip around a space center visit and then be disappointed upon your arrival.

Not quite true. I purchased a ticket to see the launch last October. My ticket was good for everything at the Vistor's Center with the exception of the tour out to the launch pads. What made the day really special were several presentations by various astronauts who talked about what was going on out on the launch pad and answered questions from the crowd. Bring a chair as there is no where to sit and food/water is expensive. But it was incredible to have a nice place to park and things to do while waiting on the launch. NASA did bring in a truck with a giant TV screen which piped in live feed from the launch pad and the shuttle itself. The launch was truly one of the most awesome things I have ever seen.

nokidz is getting us organized, woo hoo!

How cold was it up north today, we only hit 15 degrees today.

On trip details, we now have flights, Jetblue. Post-cruise stay at SSR. Transfers to SSR on DCL bus. Hoping for a Princess and Pirate party for the post cruise stay, we will see. I have a car rental for the pre-cruise day, we might be stay in the PC area the night before.

How are other's plans shaping up?

nah, just getting jiggy legs....we cruise in exactly one month. It was cold. I finally had to give up on wearing shorts. Long pants from now on...
Part of our crew are flying, the rest of us are driving straight down. We can be in St.Augustine FL in about 21 hours. Then we are 2 hours to the port.....

I looked into buying tickets to the launch.. I think I am on some Email list to let me know when they go on sale... Do you mind me asking how much the tickets were for the launch?
