Ahoy! Sailing the Wonder 2/8/09

We will be on the cruise as well. My wife, DS 6, and DD 8. We are from Cincinnati, happy to see other buckeyes will be on the cruise. This will be our second cruise, first was Jan 2005.

We are going down a day ahead of time to visit the KSC. Very excited about the Shuttle launch the morning of our return. Does anyone know if we will be able to go to the top deck to watch or will they be trying to rush us off the ship?

I will have to check out the Radisson since we will need a room for a night and if we can get free parking even better.

Looking forward to talking to and meeting some of you.

If launch is before 9 am, we will be good to stay up on deck 10 to watch. On my December 06 cruise they had photos in shutters but that wasn't until the next day after the launch, so be ready to take your own pics. They did show the launch on the Dumbo-tron, maybe they will do it again this time.

This is from the NASA site, but I think some on this thread thought it would be in the morning instead of the afternoon, as it caused KSC to be closed for the day. Here is the post.

I saw that same post. I went to the KSC website but I didn't see a time for the launch. Am I totally missing it? Either way I hope we get a chance to see it.

Yes, I know the main page doesn't show a time yet, but the link above still shows 7:30am... I still have fingers crossed that the time will change.

If it doesn't, and we can't even tour the Space Center at all that day.. I may just change our flights and some home on the 12th... No sense in spending the extra money with nothing to do Bummer!

The time will not change. The launch is 7:32am if Feb. 12, 7:06am if Feb 13, and 23-25 minutes earlier each subsequent day. Sunrise comes around 7:03am on any of these days.

I don't recommend using kennedyspacecenter.com as it is full of errors and launches on dates that don't exist.

I wonder how soon they will announce if the launch is delayed to the 13th or the 14th? If it's not on the 12th, we could then at least go tour the Space Center that day... I really think the kids (and myself) would learn alot and have a lot of fun going through it.

Hmmm... it's a waiting game. To change the flight home or not to change the flight home... THAT is the question!

Launch delays can happen any time; a scrub for weather or a launch day technical problem can occur during the countdown.

Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope that this season with your family and friends is a special one. I have made it all the way to Christmas Eve and not spilled the trip to my boys yet! I am so excited that I can't wait to see their reaction tomorrow morning. They have said several times that they really want to go back on a Disney cruise and DH and I simply tell them that we don't have the money to go right now. (which is not a complete lie) I have told DS7 that his gift from us is one that he would never dream of, so that really has his mind going! I'll let you know how the big reveal goes! 45 days! It's going fast!!! January will be tough up here in the northeast but knowing you'll be going somewhere warm and sunny sure helps.

Our reveal was great!
the boys opened their pirate pj's and said "oh, I like these"
they opened the trading pins and said "we some of these when we went on our last cruise" (PS no clue at this point!)
they opened the underwater cameras and said "we can use these at Gran Jean's pool"
they opened the monogrammed pillowcases (with Disney Wonder 2009 on them) and said "I like this" (just being polite I think!)
they opened the countdown calendars and didn't bother to read the cover
then they opened the DVD and watched it - at the end was the poem and DS 8 read it then looked at me and said "We're going on another cruise?" I said "yes" and they both went crazy.
I have video, but I will have to edit it as it has the entire morning on the camera.
We are all excited and I don't have to sneak around anymore!
