Ahoy! Sailing the Wonder 2/8/09

Ok veterans another question.

When we do Nassau, there is not much there that intrigues us. Not intereste din Atlantis or any excursions really.

Do people just get off the boat and go tot he beach? If so is ther emore than 1 beach and which is better or any advice. We have never been there and just thought we could hang on the beach and let my daughter play in the sand.

We did our first Disney cruise 2/28/08. The kids and I have been planning our next cruise ever since! We worked on Daddy to get a yes and finally did last week.
I already booked the snorkel excursion on Castaway Cay!!!!
My daughter and I were instantly addicted to snorkeling even though we were freezing. I just bought a wetsuit. I am still shopping for a better underwater camera and I need fins...
I hope to book a room at Radisson at the Port again. It was very convenient last time. Does anyone know of another hotel that offers free cruise parking?

Sorry to ramble on, I'm just so excited!!!!!
p.s. I made elaborate pirate costumes for Halloween - they are really for the pirate party! pirate:

Welcome!

Yes the Radisson still offers free parking. Someone reported that they are filling up fast although I think I will cancel my ressie soon....I'm staying at WDW the night before since I plan to imbibe at Artist Point and I don't want to drive after all the winey goodness. :)

I'm organizing the Fish Extender fun so if you want in just let me know!

Elmo, Welcome!

DM and I snagged a room at CBR with her 40% off code.....it is a pirate room, LOL. We will be sleeping in pirate ship beds, oh my! I will take lots of pics if anyone is interested in seeing.

We look atthe four points sheraton in cocoa beach and they did parking and shuttle but are about 15 minutes from the port near the Ron Jon shop.

Pirate room! Cool! I'd love to see the pictures! I was wondering what they looked like! Thanx for offering us a sneak peak!

Welcome Elmo2200! My husband will be very excited to hear about your pirate costumes as he's a pirate addict! He does a big display every halloween and the past few years have been dedicated to POTC.
We're very excited to go too, it's been a rough year for everyone and a vacation is just what we need!

We have never done a beach at Nassau. we have always just either taken the historic town tour or shopped in the main shopping district. Depending on the childs age, we did the Pirate Museum. It was interesting and was about an hour or so in total. Our kids ranged from 21 down to 15.
Sorry I am not much help.

Thanks for the replies.

Jill, with this being our first cruise I am going to pass on the FE's. I sort of get the idea, but would rather watch from the sidelines the first time around so I get more of the idea. But I would definitely like to meet alot of you on board or if people are staying at the radisson the night before we will be there.

Last time we got off the ship and went into the shops, through Atlantis, and on the public beach. Overall the taxi ride to Atlantis and beach was a waste of time and money to us. The taxi was an experience... We plan to stay on the ship this time. You could get off and walk through the first few streets to see the shops. They have Hard Rock Cafe, designer stores, and local shops.

Elmo,

Thanks

What did you not like about the beach if you don't mind me asking?

The beach just wasn't very nice. There are several cruise ships there at once. There are locals hanging out and selling stuff. You can rent a chair for $10 a hour or buy unlimited drinks. I think we spent at least $38 on taxis (family of 4) - not worth it for about 30 min on the beach. I'm sure plenty of other people enjoyed it more than we did.

So folks

Today was the day that DCL set for checking the crude oil barrel price for first quarter of 2009 sail dates. If the price was under $70, light crude closed at 36.xx, we would be refunded our fuel surcharges. If final payment day was past then it would be in the form of a OBc attached to our room. So we should be getting any fuel surcharges that we paid back, if you didn't pay a fuel surcharge there is no change for you.

I will be checking with DVC as I booked on points but paid a fuel surchange in cash at booking time

Pj

My TA actually already got my Fuel surcharge removed a couple of weeks ago. I was expecting the OBC but cash back is even better. ;)

52 more days to go!

We will be with many of you at the Radisson on Saturday the 7th. For those that are still looking for a hotel - Radisson has free shuttle and parking with any room, not just the rates that indicate cruise parking package. Last time we paid more to get the breakfast for 2 but this time I went for the $107 rate. The catch is a cancellation fee but I'm praying we won't need to cancel. Tracey

We will be on the cruise as well. My wife, DS 6, and DD 8. We are from Cincinnati, happy to see other buckeyes will be on the cruise. This will be our second cruise, first was Jan 2005.

We are going down a day ahead of time to visit the KSC. Very excited about the Shuttle launch the morning of our return. Does anyone know if we will be able to go to the top deck to watch or will they be trying to rush us off the ship?

I will have to check out the Radisson since we will need a room for a night and if we can get free parking even better.

Looking forward to talking to and meeting some of you.

I hope we have a better time on Castaway Cay. Our last cruise we had to sign a waiver about filming that was going on and didn't think much about it.

Early in the morning the last day before we arrived at Castaway Cay I went up on deck early with my laptop to pull pictures off our camera while enjoying the view. A helicopter made a few passes around the ship filming. I thought it was kind of cool.

However later in the day when sitting in a hammock on the beach the helicopter kept flying over head for about 10 min every hour. It was very annoying. It was the only bad thing about the cruise 3 years ago.
