I did pretty well over Thanksgiving, I did not give in so easily. Last night we had our company party and the only thing low carb was cheese! We only had appeitizers, small veggie pizzas, quesadillas, spring rolls and hoagies etc. I nibbled on the cheese for awhile but it was not satisfying enough so I headed for the pizzas and quesedillas.
I drank diet soda, but had way too many carbs. When I got home I did 45 minutes on the treamill but I need some will power.
I have 2 more parties to go, anybody have any suggestions? I only have 2 more pounds to go to get my next clippie if I keep up eating like this I won't lose any until after the New Year...in fact I may gain some!

Could you throw something legal in your purse - maybe a low-carb bar or something? Or eat before you go, so you're not tempted because you won't be starving?

Hopefully the next parties will have veggies & dip, or chicken wings, or meatballs, or something like that. Hoagies and quesadillas are not good!! :earseek:

Good luck!

Helen-

What if you eat a "legal" dinner before you go to the party? Would that make you feel satisfied so that you could just stick to legal nibbles during the party, and not be obsessed with the food?

I know that facing temptation is a lot easier for me if I'm not starving... :D I think this will be my plan for the holidays.

Eat first, so you keep control!

I agree with Kathy's advice to eat before you go. If possible, try for lots of conversation- if you're talking, you can't be eating;)

YUP - eat a satisfying meal before you go to a party is the ONLY way, IMHO, to resist all the high-carb goodies. HOWEVER, I plan to merely maintain during the month of December. And don't deny yourself a little taste of the goodies. I say, back to it in January!

Definitely eat before you go! Also keeping legal treats with you is a MUST! Measure out an ounce or two of almonds or sunflower seeds and put them in a zip-loc in your purse. When everything is looking way too good, sneak a few out.

Another trick that I've been using lately is sugar-free mint gum. It keeps your mouth busy but doesn't cost you a lot of carbs. Also, food doesn't look as appealing with that minty taste in your mouth - kind of like eating after just brushing your teeth! :p

Sometimes it is more helpful for us WISHER's when we are asked to bring a dish. That way, we can bring something that is legal, like meatballs. If you have any of those parties coming up, you will do fine.

I liked all the suggestions above: minty mouth, almonds in the pocket, eat before you go. Also, maybe you can try to stand very far from the food table, and get into a good conversation with someone. Focus more on the conversation than on the food. I know this sounds weird, but I usually imagine that everyone is watching me eat. It keeps me from eating too much, but is probably a little psycho. Now that I think of it......probably not a good suggestion. Sorry.

Anyway, you will do fine. Keep a big glass of water in your hand. You will be running to the bathroom, but not running to the food table.

You can do it, *and* enjoy the holidays!!!!

Thank you for your help, doing low carb this time of year can be trying. I took the advice of eating before the party. My boss had her party at her home last night. I ate a late lunch that kept me full and then right before I left I had a snack of peanuts. Before I took my shower I did my 2 mile WATP tape, that made me feel good.
She did have a nice variety though, high carb stuff and low carb so I had a lot of good things to chose from and I was able to eat right this time. I kept away from the nachos and dip and stuck with the meat balls, I had a spare rib, and some scallops and I drank a lot of ice water. I feel better now.
Next week we have a luncheon, I will be prepared with some celery, some low fat cheese and peanuts...just to be on the safe side.

Try to eat a meal before you go. I scrape the toppings off pizza, it may not be attractive but it saves me some carbs. Sneak some little snack bags of smoked almonds with you, if you like them. They are yummy and low carb.

Good luck with anymore parties you have this year.
