Greetings!
A few weeks ago, my DW and I decided to look into the DVC - particularly the SSR - and I've created a few threads to request assistance and to share our experience ("And So It Begins", "The Avalanche Has Already Started"). A few nights ago we got the DVC Videotape, and last night we got the information packet (the LITTLE FedEx package). Both packages were exactly as promised by DVC Guide Jim McCoy, but they were a bit of a letdown - and I blame this DIS board - and all of YOU! Why the finger pointing? Well, between all of the information in the other threads & DVC FAQ, and all of the very helpful answers you friendly folks have provided, there was hardly anything new in that envelope!
The video only had the SSR animations I'd seen on-line, and the brochure had been scanned in already. Point charts, financing info, building schedules - already seen on the DIS. Plus, I've seen construction photos, the models, (I know that the units at SSR are smaller than those at OKW
). I did learn a bit more about the other Collections, but those aren't a high priority for us right now.
So what now? Well, DW and I have pretty much decided to buy into SSR; we're going to think on it over the weekend and call Jim on Tuesday (Sun/Mon days off). Now, here's a humorous treat for all of you: we originally planned on buying 250 points. We are empty-nesters and new to the timeshare lifestyle, so that seemed to be a reasonable starting amount. Well, it seemed so a week ago, but over the last few days we started to think about what we might want to do, where we'd like to stay (both unit-type and resort) and who we'd like to invite. So I can proudly say that we actually fell prey to the Add-On Addiction before ever buying our first points! Now, we're shooting for 300. [Side note: boy can you come up with a lot of good reasons to buy more/add on when you put your mind to it!)
So thanks again, DIS DVC Community, for your help and support. In fact, one important tidbit occurred to me: I'd feel very sorry for someone entering into a DVC purchase cold, without you folks of the DIS at their side.
Next will be the big call, with purchase proposals, waiting for BIG FedEx boxes, and something mysterious that I only know by one name: The Palms and the Ears.
Take care,
Erick
