Agonizing over run times

Thanks, all! I've spent the last 45 mins or so watching Jeff Galloway videos on youtube.

It's hard for me not to think of run/walking as "cheating". I don't know how I got that idea but it's there. :upsidedow

If you want some additional validation that it's not cheating. Hal Higdon in his Marathon training plans mentioned his son Kevin to a few planned walk breaks in his marathon to qualify for the olympic trials. The only way it's cheating is if you run/walk and sign up as a walker. The walking division in races is for people who walk exclusively.

It's most certainly not cheating - heck, go watch an ultra sometime. At some point, everyone on that course is going to walk. The smart ones (aka, the ones more likely to finish) will start walking before they have to. (In other words - sure, I can run a couple hours without a break. But, in an ultra, I won't - I start taking walk breaks much earlier than that, so that I put off the point where I won't be able to run at all that much longer.)

I've walked portions at probably most of the marathons I have done. I think there might even be a couple where I walked almost half of it. The miles didn't get any shorter because I wasn't running, I can tell you that. :lmao:
