I've been busily trying to book a vacation for myself, DD and her boyfriend, and DS and his fiancee Tam to fly from the UK and Canada to stay in Oahu and Maui this summer.
Finally I got all the international flights booked and the inter island flights booked, and then guess what our Los Angeles/Honolulu leg was with ATA who went bankrupt at the beginning of this month and our inter island flights were with Aloha who suffered the same fate.
What a mess, and additional stress. Luckily I used my credit card so with luck I will be reimbursed, but it's not a good start!

Well thank you all for your support. With this vacation I seem to be taking one step forward and two back!
Mind you I've learnt something new.
I actually booked the whole LHR/Honolulu leg as an entire entity with Expedia flying Virgin and ATA. Now I assumed that when ATA declared bankrupcy it would be either down to me or Expedia to sort out the mess, but luckily I was wrong. It seems that it is down to Virgin. After e-mailing and phoning Expedia every day they have advised me that Virgin have decided on a policy of:-
A full refund for all flights.
A refund of the ATA portion.
Allowing Virgin to re-book us with United or Hawaii Airlines who operate out of LAX to Hawaii.
So good old Virgin I say. I have accepted option 3, so we are now all set again.
I was actually in Vancouver staying with Simon and Tam last week when I was told by Tam's dad about Aloha which is also fortunate because I decided just to bite the bullet and re-book our inter island flights all over again, and argue the toss with my credit card company on my return. Well after trying to book Hawaiin Air on line they wouldn't accept a UK credit or debit card, but when phoning them direct they wouldn't accept it at all even by phone! They will only deal with reservations made out of the US/Canada/Australia!!!! Simon and his Canadian credit card to the rescue, so I then had to visit an ATM to reimburse him in $$$$, but at least that's sorted too.
So now it's fingers crossed that my credit card company play ball, but at least we are back on track now.
I just hope that it's worth it! LOL.
