Find some other store (that does not sell that item) that uses similar ink tags.
Telephone the store in advance (you can do this while still at the same shopping mall) asking them the question and could you bring in the item.
Then take the item to the store and ask.
2.
The suggestion has been made to freeze the ink tag (and the whole garment) and then smash the ink tag. There are some disadvantages:
2a. You have to be careful to wipe/sweep up all the ink fragments which means smashing apart the entire plastic assembly.
2b. The remains of the tag are still difficult to remove.
2c. The act of smashing the tag could damage where it is fastened to the fabric.
3.
Two ultra strong magnets (the only ones I know of I salvaged out of computer hard drives I dissected) can dislodge the tag. Tags vary in construction so where to put the magnets is trial and error. Push, pull, and jiggle the tag, don't just pull. The tag I was experimenting with had the magnet sensitive parts (some ball bearings) in the cap on the other side of the fabric from the ink capsules.
