I'll be going to DL next month with my girlfriend and her kids, 10 & 7. How does Disney handle the age verification thing? Because ideally I'd like the get them both in on child ticket prices. Let's face it, it's expensive. I am an annual pass holder and I've never seen the process for this. Thanks in advance.

They take your word for it... But then you will have to ask the 10 year old to lie.... Cause they will probably be asked more than once how old they are. You good with that?

We didn't have to verify ages for my kids. But then again, we weren't lying about their ages either.

Actually our first day, the cm at the turnstile seemed shocked that we had a ticket for my 3 year old. He assumed that my youngest was 2. I very easily could have not purchased a ticket for the 3 year old, and I don't think anyone would've second guessed it at all. Honesty is the best policy.

In a case like this I agree. However it has been my experience and observation that honesty isn't always the best policy. Believe me, I know what I am talking about. :faint:

The price difference isn't really that big of difference to make your child lie. I know I have 4 and I made my child lie once when we were in Las Vegas. We went to a Buffet and the kids prices were half the adult. I felt horrible the whole time we were there and also felt like I just taught my kid to lie. Not a great parenting moment. I ended up talking to her about how bad I felt and we now pay the listed price for each age.

How much is the price difference? I actually haven't looked yet. If it isn't much, then forget about this thread. As for the white lie... Well, not my call. I'll ask my gf since it's her kid. Thanks for the info thus far and the tip on the discounted ticket.

When and where would they ask his age though? Granted, move never been to DL with children before but I've been there probably 50+ times in my life. I get it, we don't want kids to lie but something like this... In this economy... Now, if it's under $20ish then screw it, I'll eat it and get an adult ticket.

I too will have a new 10 year old on our August trip and I've been debating how to handle it. She's very proud of turning 10 so I don't want to ask her to lie about it. I was thinking that I would by her the 10+ park ticket but we are planning a couple of table service meals where I'm positive she would rather order from the child's menu so that's where we're not sure what to do. Will she have the option of ordering from the child's menu at the kid's pricing even though she'll be 10?

We are asked more at meals than at the turnstiles... Waitresses asked dd how old she is and if she still wants a kids menu? Age seems to come up even when it might not matter.

I could see where the kids menu and age thing would come up. Most ten year olds still eat off the kids menu I would imagine. We most likely would be doing counter service meals anyhow or in DTD for dinner. This is a one day thing, as we are locals. I wish I could just get them annual passes but that's so darn pricey.

Going next month gives you time to save enough for "Age Appropriate" tickets for those you are taking to the parks.

If the budget is tight, instead of buying food in the parks, consider packing a lunch and snacks for the day.
Don't forget to take your own water bottles too.
Food and drink costs in the parks can be an expensive part of a trip.

Enjoy your time in the parks.

Not my first rodeo, but thank you. I suppose I should have looked at the price difference prior to posting this thread. I was under the impression it was significant which I now know is not the case.

It's more the principle of saving money and giving it to "the man". I'll but the ten year old an "adult ticket" since its $6 different. My bad for not researching. And thank you for the unsolicited financial advice.

I suppose we will play it by ear and hope we get understanding wait staff. I really don't mind paying for her to eat from the adult menu if she's going to eat it but it's such a waste of food and money if what she really wants is on the kid's menu. This is a big reason we'll be doing mostly counter service meals but we are travelling with family and we've agreed to do a couple of table service per the grandparents' wishes.

Generally a child older than 9 may order off the child's menu. The child may be asked his/her age. For age 10+ it is the server's discretion how to handle it. Some servers will simply allow the child to order the child's meal at the child's price. Some servers especially in particular locations will offer a double portion of the child's meal for double price. When this won't work is with a character meal or special dining package like for World of Color or Fantasmic; expect a child aged 10 and up to be charged a full adult price at these types of meals.

We've had adults in our party order off the kids menu at various Counter Service restaurants simply because they didn't want a large meal, and never had an issue. Like others said, table service may be a different story, but personally I highly doubt they'd refuse to serve your daughter off the kid's menu.

Not my experience as a parent or as a former 10 year old. :)

At counter service places I've often gotten kid's meals; they don't know who is eating them. No one has ever ordered a kid's meal, at least since DS has been around 5, at a table service place, so I'm not sure how they will deal with it.

I personally don't agree with kids menus but it is not my kid nor my call. I just picture all small children to eat grilled cheese or nuggets or something. I disagree with picky eating kids. But like I said, I'm not a parent. These are my girlfriend's kids.
