Age question?

Hello We have decided that a Family WDW trip is in our future. We are hoping and taking advantage of free DDP and going in Sept. I have one child that is nine and my age related question ins are they considered and adult at age nine or are they still a child at age nine? I just want to budget what I am paying for that child for our trip and it makes a big difference.

At nine, your child will still be considered a child. I've never used the dining plan before, but a coworker of mine last went to Disney when his son was 9 and registered him as an adult on their dining plan due to the fact that there isn't much to choose from on the children's menus and the portions are small. And no, his son is not overweight at all.

Nine is his last year as a child! Enjoy. If you do upgrade him to an adult on the dinning plan, be aware you have to do so on his ticket as well. With the DDP you willl most likely have enough food to share some of yours with him if the kids meals are not enough. They were for DS at that age but are not for some kids.
Also buffets are great at this age because he pays kids prices but eats as much and whatever he wants.

Just be aware that if you upgrade to an adult on the dining plan, you also need to buy adult park tickets.There is no way to do one and not the other unless you are AP holders or DVC members and even they have to abide by the rules if they want to partake in free dining
