Hi all, I was wondering what is the age limit for kids to dress up in the parks, for some reason I am thinking 10 but can't remember. Thanks

It used to be 9 and under. But I think I saw that policy was loosened up a bit somewhere along the line.

What age guest are you asking about?

According to a CM on my Disneybounding Facebook group, new rules start (are starting enforcement) today, and costumes are allowed for 14 and under. For the bounding/cosplaying groups, there's considerable strife right now about what will be enforced.

Basic rule is this: Will a child be confused in any way by the person in the costume?

If there's no way they will be confused (i.e., it's clearly another child playing dress up), then it's probably okay. However, if the costumed person is looking a bit too much like the character (thinking of a well-developed teenager in a costume), then there's a fair chance they will be turned away at the turnstiles.

And there apparently is now a ban on firearm-like toys being used as part of a costume in the parks as well.

The info that went out with the Disneyland Halloween party tickets this year said it was an exception to the normal policy that only allowed costumes through 9 years old. But I just saw on Today a report that at Disney World they say they're no longer allowing costume for kids over 14. I wonder if it's been 9 all along and just poorly enforced or if there's a different rule on each coast. I personally thought it was 12, until I saw the info from Disney that said 9. I think 12 would be a good limit, but with 10 being an adult for tickets and menus, I think that's a fair cut off.

Just updated today across the board for Disneyland and WDW that costumes are not allowed for anyone over 14. No toy guns either.

I think they've been wishy washy and not done a great job enforcing whatever their "policy du jour" was.

That said..... the article in the Orlando Sentinel this morning says no more adult costumes even at MNSSHP. I have to think that was 1) wrong or 2) will change before tickets go on sale. But those who care might want to email Disney with their feelings on the matter.

Thats what brought my question up, i was watching that same discussion on the Facebook page :-) I always thought it was ten and under, but now they changed it to 14, I'm not too worried. I've slowly been disneybounding, but always with jeans and shirts the colors of the characters. I always considered once you buy a wig and put it on you're in a costume not a bound. I was asking cause my nephew who is 10 wanted to disneybound as Indiana Jones when we go. But he's tall, not teenager tall, but tall for a 10 year old. And i was worried it pushed the line between costume and bound, (khaki pants/button down white shirt/leather jacket/hat). He knew once he added the whip it was a costume.

When I completed a survey after about our MHP experience several questions were about costumes and how they impacted your park experience during the Party.
