Does anyone know what the age limits are for driving the water mice boats? I have a 14 year old son. Will he be able to drive a water mice boat by himself or will my wife or I need to be in the boat with him?

It depends on where the water mouse is rented from. I think you only have to be 13 to rent one at the Yacht Club marina since they have governors on them and can only go so fast. At the MK resorts, you have to have a driver's license because they go faster.

Ok being a bit thick here but what is a water mice?

At the GF marina, you have to be 16. I always had to show my drivers license when we rented a boat....

I am not sure about the other marinas, I have only used the GF....

Cute little speed boats that hold two people.

Actually, age minimum at YC is 12 and you have to be 5 feet tall (daughter met the former test, but not the latter on our last trip and was very bummed).

:confused3 So it's not 16 w/license across the board? DS turns 12 on our trip and drivng a watermouse at CSR is ALL he keeps asking about. I thought I read that a few years back the age was increased from 12 to 16?

I thought it was 16 too, but during a Feb 06 trip to YC, sign said 12 (and 5 feet tall).

OOOH, I will keep that info from DS in case it changes again, but TOTALLY going to check that out! How cool to surprise him, we'll just tell him that we are heading from Epcot to MGM, and make a little stop at the YC marina! We rented a larger boat there a few years ago, and it is fun to be able to head down to MGM and back. I know he is bumming 'cause his sister turns 16 and IF she has her license by then she would of course , rub it in to DS. :rolleyes2

When we were at the contemporary last month the rule was that you could drive one at age 12, as long as a licensed driver was with you. To actually drive one by yourself you needed to have a license.

When we were there over Easter my DS (14) and DN (13) each drove their own boat by themselves at CSR. We were told that in the self contained lakes you had to be 12 and 5 feet tall to drive by yourself, but on the main waterways such as Bay Lake you had to have a drivers license to drive by yourself.

At the marinas on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon to drive alone you must have a valid driver's license and have it with you. To drive with a licensed adult in the passeneger seat you have to be 12.

At other marinas around the World, you can drive at 12 by yourself.

Do you have to be a resort guest to hire a water mice? We are staying onsite at ASMu but think this would be something different to do. Has anyone got any rates of hire. Also i have seen on a website somewhere about bike hire any info on this would be good too. TIA Wendy

Just wanted to add my 2 cents here from our own personal experience. Yes the other Disers are right. You have to be 16 with a valid dirver's license to drvie a water mouse alone. We have been resting these for years. My son used to drive one alone after he turned 12, but a few years ago he wasn't able to because he didn't have his license yet. Disney is very strict about this as well they should be. We've seen quite a few accidents over the years. I understood this policy is for all water mice regardless of where you rent them.

We just got back from DW this week. My 12 year old grandson was able to take out a water mouse by himself from the YC Marina.

Water Mice:

In order to drive a Water Mice by yourself without an adult you need to be 16 and with a drivers license.
To drive a Water Mouse with an adult you need to be 12 years old.

Is there an age limit on the passenger? Grandpa would like to take grandson out (4yr). We will be at POFQ, where do we rent from there?
