Age limit on Luna slide?

Has anyone seen a 3 year old go down it or is that too young or too much?

I'm assuming I can't ride down with her, correct?

AFAIK, there isn't an age limit. Only one person at a time is allowed on the slide so you cannot go down with her.

Not sure if the lifeguards allow parents to wait at the bottom - the lifeguard did allow my SIL to do that for my then, 5 year old nephew. Actually, after a little while, the lifeguard suggested that she get a life jacket for my nephew (from Community Hall they're free to use during your stay). After that, my SIL was very comfortable just letting my nephew go down by himself. At the time, he could dog paddle well enough to get to the side of the pool - the life jacket gave everyone just enugh extra confidence! Of course, we continued to observe from the comfort of a nearby lounge chair.

Anyway, you and your DD will have to decide if she's ready for that "scary clown" slide or not. She'll have to brave it alone.

One thing about the Luna Park slide -- the water is fairly deep at the slide exit (3ft 6inches) and you do come "shooting" out of there! Even a capable swimmer might feel better with a little extra "buoyancy" that a lifevest provides when they hit the pool. When we were there, 2 yrs ago, I don't recall them letting me stand at the slide. My dd reallllly wants to try this slide and she is turning 4 just before our trip. She is a pretty good little swimmer, but I'm sticking a vest on her for my own peace of mind!

Well, it sounds like I'll skip it for my 3 year old then. She has had a time with her ears, two sets of tubes so far so she hasn't had swim lessons yet. She wears one of those pool pal swimsuits and this keeps her afloat great.

I think my 6 year old should be fine. She is quite the swimmer, to review I signed her up for private swim lessons for two weeks right before we leave.

But, from the sound of it I think I'll be standing on the side by the slide exit. I'm surprised you can't catch them down at the bottom. Last trip at AKL there was like a line of parents down there. This slide must definitely be faster. Do you sit up or have to lay down?

My DD went down when she was 18 months old over and over again! I thought she was a little young but she cried and wanted to try when she saw us doing it. We put her life jacket on her and we were allowed to wait at the bottom to catch her. The lifeguard at the top even made the parent at the top point out the parent at the bottom each time. She has been going down waterslides at the local indoor waterpark ever since.

Shan, the clown slide nearly killed me (went down once and never again!) but my kids loved it. They were 8 and just 5 when we visited friends staying at BWV. You do come out fast and hard, and the water is fairly deep, but the current sort of shoots you toward the edge of the pool which is very close from where the slide ends. Your little one may like it -- but YOU be careful! My son Ian went down about 100 times -- literally -- and he wasn't a very strong swimmer back then. The lifeguard sits close and if a child is struggling, they'll intervene.

kids,pool hop over there and try.The other thing is the water parks have great small slide areas for the little kids.
I have also seen many little kids use the BWV slide .

When I took my 4 year old DS and my 13 year old DS, I went down the slide first, then the 4 year old, then the 13 year old followed. I had plenty of time to recover and turn around to catch my son. If there are 2 adults (or 1 adult and an older child) you may want to try it this way so you have one person in the water and one above waiting withthe younger child.

As far as sitting or laying, maybe it is just me, but after that first turn, I was laying down. Not because I wanted to either!! It is a more comfortable ride if you can stay seated because it is a bit bumby on your bare back (bumby going over the connection area where the slide pieces come together). It really is a slight thing, but since I layed down most of the times I went down, I started to really notice it after a while. Besides, once my 4 year old hit the first turn, he was getting thrown all over the place, so depending on the person, you may not have a choice of sitting or laying. My son look scared to death going down that slide, but once he hit bottom and someone was there to catch him, he was ready to go again and again

My DGD was 2 months shy of 4 years, when she went down the slide many times last fall. She wore a lifevest (from home), and we always had an adult at the bottom, off to the side, to help her get to the side. I tried laying down once, but thought it was too fast that way, lots of water up my nose at the end! I prefer to sit up now. It's a great slide, have fun!

DD begged to go on the clown slide when she was 3 1/2. I was with her alone at the pool. DH was up in the room with the napping 1 yo.

Didn't know if she was allowed to, especially since she couldn't swim yet, so I asked the life guard. He said sure, just get a life vest from community hall.

I explained DD that it might be scary, that she would have to climb up the stairs by herself and slide down by herself and that I would wait for her in the pool. She agreed and proceeded to go off by herself.

I waited for her in the pool. But you are not allowed to wait right by the slide exit. I am not a strong swimmer. I'm short and I don't tread water very well. When she got on the slide, I started inching closer to the bottom of the slide on my tippy toes.

Well, I didn't get close enough when she came shooting out and into the water. Luckily, a tall gentleman closer than me reached out and grab her by the back of her life vest and lifted her out of the water before she went under and had to shallow any water.

She looked as white as a sheet. I asked her if she liked it and she nodded yes but stated clearly that she had enough for this trip. She'll go again next trip.

Sure enough, she didn't go back on any slide on that trip, even when we moved over to the BCV. She watched her baby sister go down the kiddie slide numerous times at SAB and refused to go down again even with me or my DH! She kept saying she'll go again on our next trip.

She's 5 now and she still hasn't been back on a water slide! I think that she is very capable. It's just that we haven't been back to BWV and we either used the quiet pools or stayed at OKW or it was too cold to swim the next few times we went to WDW.

We'll see the next time we go to a pool with a slide.

My little guy rode the slide at 2 yrs 9 mos w/ a life vest. It was quiet at the pool and the lifeguards were very accomodating and nice. He was a thrill seeking 2 yr old at the time, but he didn't care for the slide all that much even though he's been on rollercoasters and such before that time. We had to encourage him to go on the 2nd time. But he never went the 3rd time. We couldn't believe he didn't want to ride, but kids surprise you all the time. So we didn't push the issue and let him just swim and watch Daddy ride instead.

Gee, I thought the title of this post was going to provide information on how old you could be before they wouldn't let you on the slide anymore. I was hoping I wasn't over the limit yet!!

Last December, my DS (2 years 11 mos) and I tried this very thing...

He and I walked up the steps of Keister Coaster together... Talked with the lifeguard for a sec, and she agreed to let me go first, and then wait for him at the bottom.. Luna Park was pretty quiet at the time.

I went down first.. (Had a blast...) When I got to the bottom, I stood there waiting for him, but heard the lifeguard waving me back up to the top... He was concerned about the jets of water on the slide, and had 2nd thoughts..

She was very accomidating, and he and I walked back down the steps of the slide together...

We'll probably visit the pool again this year and try again..

We stayed there when my son was 2yrs. 7mos. and he went down the slide over and over again. He didn't want to leave the pool he had so much fun. Either my husband or myself waited for him at the bottom. He never had swim lessons before then we just used a life vest available at the resort. It really depends on their personality and if they have an older sibbling doing it makes them want to do it more which was our case.

I read your post while I was at BWV...

I saw the whole gamut... kids with floaties... kids without... some parents waiting at the bottom, others not.... there is a strong current at the end of the slide... fun to watch parents fighting it to catch their child.

Just be careful the water coming off the slide makes a strong current, be safe in the water.

We just got back today from BWV. There is no age or height requirement for the slide. My 3 year old DD wanted to try so my DH went down first and then I was going to put her on, then I would go.

But when we got to the top, she decided she was not ready. So I walked her back down. When I went back up to go, the lifeguard told me I should have just put her on and pushed her

You can go down either sitting up or laying down. I went sitting up because I didn't want my hair wet.

The parents are allowed to wait by the slide's exit to catch their children, but if a lot of parents are congesting the area, the lifeguards will tell them to move.

Maybe my DD will be ready when we return in September

since we can still pool - hop - how about pool hopping over the POFQ - this is a very slow slide - the lifeguards would even let you go down with your child..... for the under 8 years old group - this slide is pretty nice.

for anyone older - this is a pretty boring slide....
