Hi all —

I’m trying to make a hotel reservation for February, 2021. My daughter will turn 16 in December, 2020. Her age is correct in her profile on MDE. When I make a hotel reservation, it asks me to select the 16 year old guest. When I do that, It says she is 15 and it will not accept her as the guest. It won’t let me complete the reservation. Is there an easy way around this? Do I need to call them? It says it wants the age at the date of travel, so 16 is correct. Thanks for any suggestions.

I had this same issue. I ended up creating a duplicate profile for each of my kids and then I had to call Disney’s IT help desk to have them merge the accounts together. The IT CM was SUPER helpful and took care of it with no problem, but it was still a huge pain to have to find a workaround for an obvious glitch in the system. :-(

We had the same issue... Does it really matter to you? My kids age was the same in our dme. We were charged correct so i did not mess with it.

Thanks. Does not matter to me as long as there won’t be a problem later with check-in or anything else.

In the past twice I have had no problem with putting in their current ages. No problems upon arrival or during stay.

This time I have a daughter currently 17 who will turn 18 before we go, which should be an additional adult fee, but since the system always only accepts the current age, I have her as a 17 year old. It's through a third party booking at a closed resort. Whether we stay on-site or off depends on where they put us. So we might have issues with the age being wrong, but as long as you are not in the rather specific situation of a 17 turning 18 year old, I think you will be fine!

I've had the same issue with my granddaughter's age, so yes, the problem is definitely there.

I don't see where it matters. Once you hit 11 isn't everyone an "adult"?

Age 10 is Disney adult age for paying the adult price at restaurants and tickets. For resorts you can can have two adults and two or three people under 18. If you have two adults and an 18 year old, then the additional adult fee kicks in. It varies based on value, moderate or deluxe but it's around $25 a night.

Had this same issue - think I took out my daughter's actual DOB & just put in that she was 16yo (even though like your daughter she wasn't at the time) but then it let me put her in the reservation w/o issue. Way easier than calling right now & actual DOB doesn't really matter at 16yo.

Well, when you search for a booking from the main page, you are asked to input the children’s ages at the time of travel. Then you go through the search process and select a room, add tickets, yada yada yada... and then finally you’re at the point where you select the identities of the individual travelers. And it’s at this point in the process where suddenly you can’t select your actual children who are already in the system because their age right now doesn’t match the age that they’ll be at the time of travel.

So now your options are to press your luck with attempting to edit the ages of the travelers (which last week during the system overload was risky, and which at the best of times is still inconvenient), or create a duplicate of your child so that the reservation can be secured (which means that your child’s existing Magic Bands won’t work for the new reservation, for starters, and also creates the potential for errors in planning if you leave the duplicate personas in your account... and the only way to fix the duplicate accounts is to call IT).

And that’s why it matters. :earsboy:

It must be one of those YMMV situations, I just checked my reservation and my daughter is listed in the reservation at her age at travel but in her current profile she's her current age.

An update: If I make the reservation using my MDE account, it works fine. It seems to “know” that her age at the time of travel is different from her current age and all is fine. If I make the exact same reservation using my wife’s MDE account (also linked to my daughter), it does not work. It thinks she is 15 at time of travel. Both are linked to her correct profile and have her correct birthday.

It probably has to do with who manages the profile...I manage my daughter's profile and do all the booking, so it's never been an issue for me.

I've never had a problem with DD's age until making our reservations for next year. I didn't want to risk not getting the reservation we wanted, so I just made a new profile for her. I had to make one for her friend who is going with her. Their ages are mixed up, but they won't care that one swapped 16 for 17 and vice versa! I didn't make new avatars for them, so I can remember to use the matching ones if we are ever able to make ADRs & FP reservations. From now on, I'll try to remember to use the current age instead of her age at the time of the trip.

Five years later and this is still a glitch? lol, just tried to book a reservation in October this year...my daughter is currently 10 but turns 11 in September. Oh, you want to add your 11 year old (Disney site changed it based on her age)...sorry, she's actually still 10. No crap?
