AG Mini dolls?

If you have AG mini dolls could you tell a bit about them? Do you (dd/ds) like them? Do your kids play with them? How did they react to a receiving a mini versus regular? My dd10 has requested a new AG doll. She has 4 already and I am thinking that we are close to being done. She doesn't really play with them much anymore, though she does do their hair. I was not at all expecting this. I think she just fell for the New Orleans dolls and now wants one. I was thinking about getting the minis instead but just don't know much about them. Any information would be appreciated!

DD11 has several of the mini dolls. She's never really played with them much, they mostly just sit on a shelf, but she does consider them one of her (many) "collections".

They definitely don't take the place of one of the full-size dolls. They are only a few inches tall, and you can't really do their hair, change their clothes, etc like the other dolls.

If you don't want to get your daughter another doll, how about just ordering some of the clothing and books for whatever historical doll it is she wants? That seemed to satisfy my daughter well enough as she was aging out of them and I didn't want to drop that much $$$ on a doll she wouldn't play with alot. Maybe you could even make up a French-sounding name for one of her existing dolls, to allow her to take on that personality LOL

thanks! Maybe buying the clothes would be good enough....or at least better than nothing!

We have one mini doll, Kit. We got her a few years ago at Five Below with the movie and doll set for $5. Great deal! But, the doll is mostly just a display piece and doesn't get much love.

My dd wanted one when they first started with the collection this year but I said no just cause if we bought one we would want to buy the twelve and the shelf and by the time it was all done we would have spent about 300$

That's just my option though :)

Costco has the mini doll/book set for $35. I like that it has the books as well so if you are getting a doll you don't have already then you'll have the books as well. I might get one for my DN.

If the full sized doll is what she wants, and it is within your budget, then I would get her exactly what she wants. I have found that children are very disappointed when they ask for something specifically and they are given something else. Even at a young age they can be taught that, "If you get this that takes up the whole budget (or Santa's does x amount....)."

I like the idea of the book, clothes... from the new doll, but I would ask her first.

DD wanted Samantha for Christmas one year. My mom bought it for her, so it was under her tree. We opened our gifts before going to mom's and I had gotten her the mini Samantha and Nellie. She opened it and tried to act excited and said "oh, I guess I didn't tell Santa I wanted the big one" She was so upset and trying to hide it. I couldn't wait to get to mom's and as soon as we walked in the door we gave it to her. No, she never did play with the mini's, she displayed them on a shelf. We always made sure "Santa" bought the big present to our house from then on.

Does anyone know if Sams Club or BJ's Wholesale have these sets as well? I don't have a membership to either, but was going to ask around friends if they do have them. DD wants the Cecile/Marie Grace books, just as soon get with a doll. (Which doll do the C/MG sets have?)

OP, dd has just the Molly mini and definately does not play with her much (which seems a little counter to me asking about the book sets above- but if the book set comes with a "free" doll, she'll certainly use it enough. :)) She mostly plays with it as a doll for the 18" ones.

Costco has the mini Cecile and Marie Grace sets. If they have the same books (I don't know anything really about those dolls), then I would assume each doll has the same set of books.

I can't help you about with Sam's and BJ's, but the mini doll/book sets do exist for each doll

Thanks, all, for the responses! I think I will either get her the large doll or a gc for $50 and let her earn the rest. We did this a few years ago with both of our girls. They received an AG gc from us and then my mom had given them each $20 Visa gcs. They were able to decide if the dolls were important enough to them to purchase with the gc's and allowance savings or if they preferred clothes, accessories books whatever. It may be a good compromise but it sounds like the mini definitely is not the answer!
