Afternoons in the parks

Since I have been on the disboards, many people state that they do the parks in the morning, go back to the hotel to rest or go to the pool, then go back to the parks at night. If so many people do this, then wouldn't the crowds be low during this time?

Just a thought.

Not really.....all the folks that slept in will be coming in, park-hoppers will be hopping in, folks who spent the am at the waterpark will be coming in and the folks going to EMH will come in the afternoon. Afternoons are often hot and crowded and often make you long for the pool!

Not at all. When we head back to our resort about 12:30 or 1, there are massive crowds coming into the parks.

I was just curious. I have been to WDW many times and have never gone back to the room mid-day. We either just stay at one park all day or we go to two different parks for the day. We may stop by the room on the way to a different park, but that is about it. I thought with kids we would need to go back to the room, but kthey seem to have so much energy while we are there.

Families with children who adopt this strategy make up a SMALL percentage of park goers on any given day!

Remember, there are a lot of adults at WDW too, and most of them SLEEP IN!!! We do, at least.

Heck, when my sister and friend and I were at WDW last month, we only made it out of the hotel room before 12:30 on ONE day the whole week, and we felt like that was good! Most of the time, it was more like 1:00pm or 2:00pm when we were heading out to the parks.

We slept in until 9:30-10:00, then went to the gym to work out. Then, we ate breakfast in the room, showered, got ready, etc. Three women take some time to get ready, especially with one bathroom. :lmao: 1-2pm was our "average" out the door time. Since the parks were open late, and there was usually a nighttime EMH until somewhere around midnight or 1am, this worked out just fine for us! We never even used the resort pool, or went back to the room, except to drop off a purchase, or change clothes, or grab a sweater or something. Since we were at the Contemporary, and on the monorail, this was convenient, otherwise we wouldn't have returned at all...

We always stay at the Polynesian just in case we need to go back to the room. Also, we like the atmosphere at the Poly.

I appreciate all the input. I was just curious.

OP, I'm actually very happy that you posted this question!
We are going the last full week of August this year. I told DH that we should adopt the afternoon at the pool strategy, but he said that he didn't want to do what EVERYONE else does. Now that I know the situation better by reading some of these replies, I think I can convince him.

Thanks again for posting (and replying)!!

If we went early in the morning (especially EMH at MK) were were able to do all of the attractions we wanted with little/no waits. By about 11:30 the lines/crowds started to build, so we would head back to the resort. Most of the time there was only one other family/couple on our bus. Once we were the only people in the entire bus area at MK, so certainly everyone doesn't leave mid-day.

We liked to get out of the heat and actually DH, all three kids, and I did sleep for several hours. It's not for everyone, but we wanted to have a relaxing trip and it worked for us. We have an 11 night trip coming up (13 more days!!!) and DH half-jokingly says he just booked the trip for the naps. ;)

Smart man. My whole family (me, husband and 15 yr old son) all take afternoon naps a WDW in May and June. Then we can hit EMH in the evening if we want and still get up earlier the next morning to get to TL when it opens (of course, a nap on the beach at TL is good, too).

We always go in January when the parks aren't open too late, so we don't normally go back to the room to "rest up". Of course, I'm of the "all-day-strong, all-day-long" camp, so I spend as much time as possible in the parks. Granted, the youngest person in our group is 23 :) I'm sure that's different with kids.
