Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian?

Is this more of a just girl thing? Or could my dh(when were there) and I do it togeher? lol Hope I dont sound like a loon!

DH and I went on our last trip. It was very good and he didn't feel uncomfortable at all - and he's a "manly man" :rotfl: . I just asked him if he would do it again and he said he would.:lovestruc

I;ve had tea with gentlemen there - one of them said it was his favorite meal of the trip. It used to be sufficient to take the place of dinner - lately, some of the sandwiches have been skimpy and dry, so maybe not so much.

I might want to do the spa BEFORE tea, though, especially if it was a massage where I had to lay on my front. lol.

My DD and mom and I went last April... it was a very special afternoon. My DD is highly allergic to nuts... they were wonderful about making her special sandwiches that she would enjoy. She is also a vegetarian... they were wonderful about accomodating her needs...

Can anyone who's been to the tea let me know what the tea sandwiches consist of?

The menu's I've found don't specify. I'm really wanting to try the Garden tea on my solo trip to Disney in December, but afraid that I won't like the food. I don't eat mayo, and my concern is that most of the sandwiches include mayo. Are there any non-mayo options?

Here's what the menu I saw had, which was consistent with what I remembered we had:

cucumber with watercress
shrimp salad with dill
chicken salad with almonds
grilled pear with gorgonzola
egg salad

If you have any food allergies or even a concern with the ingredients, the chef will come out personally and let you know what each sandwich contains. They're also happy to substitute, so if you want more of one kind of sandwich, you can do that also.

We absolutely LOVE tea at the Grand!!!
Tea is about slowing down and enjoying the experience.
We have "taken tea" many places, and the GF is amazing!

My daughter and had tea at the Grand on our "girl's only" trip this past August. I've been wanting to go for a long time and we finally did. We had a wonderful time. The sandwiches were very good (sorry can't remember exactly what we had, but they were good!), pasties yummy and the whole atmosphere is just magical. Both of ur really really enjoyed it and look forward to going back.

ENJOY The MAGIC!!

How fun!

We're planning a big family trip with my parents, my brother and sister-in-law, and my little nephew for next winter. I am so looking forward to doing this with my Mom and SIL! We're going to get all dressed up for it! I can't wait!

Aloha,
I plan our flight around my res for Tea at the Grand Floridian. We always take the red eye so we can have Tea the same day. We come from the west coast.
You need at least 1 1/2 hrs to enjoy the setting and food. The servers are always nice. An food is very filling. Going during the Christmas season is great. You get to smell the gingerbread house while having tea.

aloha,
hawaiian mickey

I did a review of our tea in November. We went with our 2 kids ages 11 and 7. They both ordered the children Ms. Potts tea. Frankly, it wasn't enough food to replace a meal for them. It would have been if they were given a scone but they weren't. I didn't think of ordering extra. They got a 1/4 of a tuna which niether ate, 1/4 of peanut & jelly and 1/4 ham and cheese. Then, they got a choice of 2 dessert items. This was in no way or shape enough food. This felt like a toddler sampling if you ask me. So, unless your kids are really really picky eaters I'd order extra. The adults got way more food: I got four 1/4 sandwiches, onion tartlet and pate, plus a jam tartlet and scone, and dessert. Alot more food. I ended up having to share part of my meal with them. My kids attend other tea houses here locally and we get more food so, they were disappointed. The review is on the 2nd page of this link if you want to see pictures of it.

Another reason I really think it wasn't enough food for us is that we are total walkers around the parks. So, after the tea we went to Epcot to tour the World showcase and buy time we got there and walked to the World Showcase area we were starving. I think, WDW we tend to eat more as we are burning more calories. So, this might be fine for someone hanging around the resort all day.

The Afternoon Tea is fabulous. I have done this in the past and will be doing it again on my upcoming trip.

Last time it was just DH and I. Not exactly his "cup of tea" but he did enjoy the Gentleman's platter. This time it will be with DD4, Friend and me. A Girl's Day out. I also ordered the mini Castle Cake as a surprise for DD. It is basically a larger than normal cupcake with a white chocolate castle on top. But with all the other food offered, I figured the 3 of us can each have a bite and DD will feel like a princess.

Thanks for posting this. Hmmm. I may have to bypass one of the package teas, and just go ala cart, or maybe the Sally Lunn tea.
