I am looking to book Afternoon Tea at GF for my mum & me on the day before my Disney wedding:lovestruc .
Has anyone had Afternoon Tea at Gf, if so what was it like?

I took her for Tea at the Ritz a few years a go & she loved it so figured it ll be a nice surprise:) .

Also can you only book this 90 days in advance or is it 180 days?

Thankyou

I have been twice and loved it both times. Took my mother and DD on the last trip. I would definitely go again. I think all reservations are 90 days in advance now. Go hungry and don't plan on a big dinner.

We took my Mom Jan'08 for her birthday. It was wonderful. My Mom is from England and always loved a cream tea. This was a treat. We ordered the finger sandwiches (which were just ok) and then we had triffle or a pastry and a pot of tea.
I wouldn't order the finger sandwiches again-but loved the triffle and the atmosphere!!! We thought it was worth the money and would do it again!!!
Enjoy!!

It took me dozens of trips to get my friend to try the tea and now it's a favorite! I agree with the former poster...go hungry and don't bother planning dinner. I would also recommend allowing a minimum of two and a half to three hours to totally enjoy the experience.

I don't know about you, but we're pretty middle class folk who were afraid that we might be intimidated a bit but we could not have been more at ease. It was a wonderful experience that we'll certainly do again.

Yes, it can be booked at 90 days. Have fun!

I have done the Grand Floridian Tea a couple times. The current tea comes from a Canadian company called T. It used to come from Harney and Sons. I had the Buckingham Palace a couple years ago. They offer many different options on the menu. There are items substantial enough for a meal, or just a light snack. The food is about the same quality as any nice hotel tea. I recommend the Eros tea. (I am actually drinking a cup right now - you can purchase it at the tea, or directly from the company using the internet.) You can also order the fancier pastry items by calling ahead - Cinderella's slipper, castle cake, etc. I would recommend making reservations ahead of time. The last time I was there, they turned away a family at the podium because they didn't have reservations, even though many tables sat empty the entire time I was there. Allow sufficient time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. It would be a lovely way to spend the afternoon with your mum, prior to your marriage. Have a wonderful time. (I'm not sure what the reservation time frame currently is.)

Is there a tea with just sweets available? I am not a "salad" person, as in chicken salad, tuna salad sandwich etc. But I like tea and I love sweets! Thanks for any info.

I did this a while back and it was a wonderful experience. I had the Buckingham Palace. WONDERFUL scones-I could've eaten a half-dozen of them easily! Go hungry though--the treats are very filling.

I wasn't a huge fan. I took my mom the week of mother's day last year. We both love afternoon teas elsewhere, but I thought the food here was sub-par. Pastries were stale, sandwiches were bland. Sparkling wine was warm. Nothing special all around. Our server made us feel rushed and didn't explain anything (we saw the server at the next table explaining in detail what she was serving, I think that probably made for a better experience for that table). I didn't think it was worth it for the money.

Also, the ADR was hard to make, I had to call several times before a CM answered who actually knew what I was trying to book (the others kept trying to book me for a character tea).

1) It is a nice Tea.
2) Much like afternoon tea at many UK restaurants.
3) But, not comparable to the Ritz or Savoy (which use GFOP & FOP teas).
. . . the atmosphere is pleasant
. . . the food is acceptable
. . . the tea taste is above fair
. . . the tea quality is mediocre, as it is only Broken Pekoe or Fannings
4) Understanding limitations, you should have a nice experience.

**********************************************************

Tea Grades: A Short Primer -

These black tea grades are somewhat subjective and can vary from region to region. A couple of things to note: Pekoe is pronounced peck-oh, and there is no orange flavouring in any of these teas. Pekoe is not a flavor, but a grade (don't try to figure it out, just believe it to be true). For the most part, the more initials, the better the tea quality.

Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (FTGFOP)
. . . extremely high quality TGFOP.

Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (TGFOP)
. . . similar to GFOP
. . . with an even higher proportion of golden tips

Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe (GFOP)
. . . a higher quality tea
. . . includes the golden tips of the young buds leaves.

Flowery Orange Pekoe (FOP)
. . . similar to OP
. . . used for teas
. . . from the rest of India or other regions.

Orange Pekoe (OP)
. . . A good quality tea
. . . consisting of large leaf pieces
. . . used for teas from Sri Lanka or south India

Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) Tea
. . . many small or broken pieces of leaves
. . . frequently used in restaurants for pot-brewing

Fannings / Dust
. . . tiny bits and pieces
. . . usually leftovers from processing
. . . commonly found in tea bags

I think it's lovely and I've also had tea at various London hotels and department stores. It does compare, perhaps not to the Savoy or Ritz but to most others. Yes you can order just sweets or just a savory menu. The Garden View Blend tea was tasty.

I called last week and booked tea for a time during the first week of Feb.

I am really looking forward to it. Was glad to hear all the positives. :goodvibes

27 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

We have dined at the Afternoon Tea many times and Rusty brings up some good points. I also see you live in the UK, so I would be a little reserved in recommending this offering as I am not sure the tea may be up to your standards.

You might consider the GF Spa offerings which offer some Mother & Daughter Spa Collection services.

no matter if the tea/food/service is mediocre or fantastic, as Mom who has one getting married in June (sadly, not at Disney!), I think you are awesome for thinking of spending time with your Mom in this way before the wedding. It will be so special, no matter what the surroundings are. And it will make her feel loved and wonderful! I applaud you!

Absolutely FABULOUS!!!! ;) :)
Check out my dining reviews, its in there from Dec.
