I'm looking at booking an early evening flight home, on a weekday, out of SNA (Orange County airport). We'd probably need to leave for the airport around 4 or 5pm . Is there much rush hour traffic in that direction on the freeways that time of day? Should I consider flying out at a different time of day?

Just came home yesterday. It was a weekday, but it was Veteran's Day, so I'm sure the traffic was a little lighter than usual. We left DL at 5:30pm. There were a lot of cars but we were still going the speed limit. The main commute traffic was going the other direction and they were bumper to bumper.

Welcome to DIS by the way.

last time we left during rush hour around 6:00pm and it took us a an hour and 10 minutes to get to the airport plus we had to refill and return the rental car we had so we almost didn't make it. we even took out a late flight (8:20pm) Good thing John Wayne is nothing like Seatac because if that was the case we would have missed our flight for sure. We are still taking the same time flight home, we'll just have to leave a little earlier this time. So I say if you plan ahead and give yourself time you should be fine.

Thanks for the quick responses! I've currently got a 7pm flight on hold, so what time should we be ready to leave the DL area? We'll probably take a taxi rather than rent a car.

*thinking to myself* I wonder if I should switch to the 8:30pm flight to give us a little more time in the park that day? Daughter could be late to school the next day, right? I mean we're getting home late anyway, what's a little later??? :confused3

I think the 8:30pm flight home is a better bet if you ask me and you and your daughter could just take the next day off to rest. That's what me and my husband have done. We are already going to be taking that Monday off because our flight won't be getting back home to Seattle till about 11:00pm or so. That way you could get up early the morning you have to leave and spend all day in the parks and I would say if you have a 8:30pm flight you should probably leave the park around 6:00pm just to be safe. That's what we plan to do. Hope this helps.:)
