This is a good thread. I like hearing about everybody's different approaches. I'm a mid-day break person myself, even on my solo trip, without the kids. I think that's partly because I get a bit sensory-overwhelmed and need some downtime in the quiet hotel room. Since I like to be at rope-drop, and stay until after fireworks and late parades, I find that I really enjoy getting out for a few hours during the hottest and most crowded hours of afternoon.
I often go back to the hotel with the intention of reading or checking email, or planning out the next day. Guess what? I always fall asleep, just like a toddler!
