This is an american thing with the 'Freshman' and 'Softmore' stuff, being English i have no idea what on earth you guys are going on about, so could someone please explain it to me please.

High school usually goes from 9th-12th grade (some schools might be 10th-12th), and this is what each grade level are called:

9th grade--Freshman
10th grade--Sophomore
11th grade--Junior
12th grade--Senior
