DH doesnt think I could do it - even with just DS & myself. He told me I can do what I want (never been told otherwise) but Im not sure if we should extend or not.
Actually I have been happiest when we were at the WL.
Im not sure if I could stay in a Value even to extend a vacation. We will still stay 3nights WL & 6nights BCV but maybe start at Pop

so whos gone from a deluxe to value and were you happy?

Stayed four different trips deluxe club level/concierge, then moved to a value for trip five and we had a great time! You're in Disney World!

We had only stayed in Deluxe, and in 1999 we were going to the Poly, but since we had just purchased our house, we decided that the only way we could afford to go was to stay at a value. We stayed at the All Star Sports, and hated it. I will never again stay at a value. It was dirty, and very cramped, and we were only three people.

That being said, if that is the only way you can afford to go, then try it. You might have a better experience than we did.

Have to say that I am a hotel snob:):)....After years of staying in value hotels throughout the country I now prefer only moderate or deluxe at WDW or anywhere else. The ultimate for me is not the GF but a 2 bdr villa somewhere on property (there are 4 of us in the family and we like our space).

We are going to WDW in March for 3 nights and started out at a moderate but for $50 more a night we moved to a deluxe. To us it is just worth the extra room and amenities.

Have a magical Disney Day!!:)

We just got back last night, matter of fact. We took advantage of cheap airfares and cheap AP rates at POP. We normally stay at AKL. Now I know why. It's a different atmosphere, that's for sure. It wasn't BAD, in fact our room was clean, housekeeping was prompt, noise level was low, and we had a great room in the preferred bldg. HOWEVER, the theming was obnoxious. :rotfl2: Just not our style. And the beds... :badpc: Yep, that's what my head and shoulders felt like every morning! Ugh...

Even though it was a clean, quiet stay, never again. Not for $29/night. Nope.

Oh, and the bus service was fine. Actually, in 3 days the longest we waited for a bus ANYWHERE (resort or park) was 4 minutes. Yeah, we had major bus mojo working! I think 5 out of 7 times we went anywhere, the bus pulled up as we walked up to the stop. :worship:

If you like the deluxes, it might be hard to appreciate the values.

sorry, another hotel snob here. I don't think I could do it. The longest I could stay at a value would be one night.

I'm a hotel snob too but the end of this month I'm staying at the Don Cesar 3 nights then Poly lagoon concierge for 2 nights and Pop Century for 3 nights. The only reason I'm staying at PC is I'm hooking up with a group of friends and we are all staying there.

If you love WL, I don't know how happy you'll be staying at a value. IMHO there is no comparison between the WL and any of the values. That said, only if it were the only way you could afford to go, then do it but just remember what to expect.

If it were a value or nothing I would definitely choose a value! I would just plan a different kind of trip - shorter, maybe - lots of time in the parks. We spent one night at ASSp before checking into AKL and although I didn't care for it personally, it wasn't a horrible experience. No, a value and AKL/Poly/GF just can't compare but if you have realistic expectations of what a value resort should be I think you could have a good time.

I am a bed snob.

Nothing worse for me than not getting enough sleep.

My whole day is ruined if I wake up with swollen eyes, sore neck and shoulders.

I sleep like a baby at deluxes, beds are so much better and worth the extras $$$.

If you need to do it, extend the trip at the front end. Save the deluxe for last.

We had always stayed at a Deluxe (WL and Poly) and decided to stay at a moderate one time (to save money). We could see the difference after a day or two. What made it worse was the fact that we visited the WL for dinner and we became homesick. We vowed never again. We wait until we've saved enough for a Deluxe and then we book. Disney is too big of a vacation to worry about cutting costs. The trip to Disney is a treat! :)

depends completely apond you - if you go expecting it to a deluxe you are in for a nightmare.

if you expecting a nice place to sleep, a fun place to walk around (my opinion), pretty nice bus service, a fun food court (said fun - not fancy or great) - then you will be fine.

but if you go to a value resort expecting it to a deluxe resort - don't even try it.

also I think Pop Century is planned for adults - it has so many memories than anyone not born before the 90's would really appreciate - again my opinion.

As others have said, if it were the ONLY way I could go & if it was a short commando trip , then yes, I could do it as long as I didn't expect to get more than I paid for.

If I could extend my trip by cutting corners, I would go moderate. I prefer Deluxe & am used to them, but I had a very nice stay at CSR. Better than I expected.

I would really have a hard time with value. I have done it once & really didn't care for the resort experience. I still had a great trip, but spent very little time at the resort because it just had nothing to offer. I didn't sleep well that trip due to small, hard beds & noisy rooms.

on our first trip we stayed at all all star sports and being our first stay everything seemed very magical. On our last stay we were at akl this place was teriffic but we spend most of our time on the run.I think we were in the pool twice in 8 days for short periods. After some discussion I think our next stay will be at Pop, since we are not at the resort that much the money we save can be put to use in other ways at the parks. One problem I had at akl was trying to figure out who to tip, I always tip and don t want to snub anyone but I found myself tipping 3 people at the car, one after taking our bags to the room, one after taking our bags to the car and a couple more that helped us load the car. Like I said I love to tip I know how hard people work and they diserve it but after awhile I think they had people posted to let other cm s know the guy with the dollar bills was on his way lol

Yep, snob here too, never tried it. I look at it this way, if this is your once a year indulgence, why not be totally decadent and go all the way. That sounds really pretentious, while I am by no means well off, I work hard and when it's time to play, I'm going to do it the way I want, pulling no punches. I know I could have a longer stay at a value hotel, but I'd rather have a slightly shorter stay, but a greater overall experience, quality over quantity. The value hotels are a great option that affords many families the opportunity, that years ago could never consider staying on property. I think though, that once you've gone deluxe, it would be hard to go any other way.

we would still be doing our 3nights at WL followed by 6nights at Beach Club Villas
Im trying to decide if we should add-on another 5nights at the beginning at Pop - we would do the parks M-F to get us away from the resort - not sure about Sat & Sun - hows the waterparks on wknds in Aug? - this would give us more resort time once we get to WL & BCV
