Aft Extended Balcony Reviews?

Hi everyone! I tried searching, but didn't seem to find the answer, but please forgive me if this has already been covered. My booking window for the Treasure opens tomorrow and I was looking at one of the aft cabins with the extended balconies that come with the loungers. My big question is, will it be horribly sunny and I'll never use it? I think my parents would enjoy it, but they won't be out there if there's no coverage from the sun. This is pricier than a bump out verandah, so I don't want to spend money if we won't use. TIA!

Our family has sailed on both the Dream (Room 9176) for 5 nights and the Wish (Room 9184) for 3 nights in the 04E rooms. We LOVED both of those rooms. We spent quite a bit of time out there during both cruises and have another one booked on the Fantasy for December 2024.

We feel like the bit of premium has been worth it. I will say that due to the elevator location, there is a bit more walk on the Wish than the Dream to get to the room, but it wasn't enough to not sail on the Wish or Treasure in the future.

The Dream had the long loungers and the Wish did NOT have the loungers. There were 4 chairs, but no loungers. Thank you so much for letting me know! And it definitely looks like there was plenty of shade.

I think it can depend on the time of year. We sailed in 10658 on the dream in august for a B2B. It was so hot on the balcony in august that it was unusable most of the time. We have sailed in 9172 on the fantasy in October and used the balcony every day.

We're looking at a February trip to Progreso and Cozumel.

For those who have stayed in those rooms before, was soot an issue...? I've been a little leery of booking them due to reviews saying it can be a problem.

I watched several You Tube videos of specific staterooms on the Wish yesterday and most appeared to have partial sun and shade. It really will depend on what direction the ship is sailing and time of day.

We ended up booking 8192, which is Category 6A. There are only 2 of these and they only sleep 2 people. The room shape is slightly different and it has a single chair instead of the sofa bed. We booked western Caribbean Feb 22, 2025 so if you are looking for that same sailing, at least one of them is taken! The other one is stateroom 8690. The category 4E’s are larger rooms and also cost $1400 more with an onboard offer.

We did the very aft on the Dream (the room next to the flag) and had no soot. Fabulous views. we had the long loungers. We enjoyed the balcony in March but we had some vibration issues 2/5 nights (enough to keep us awake and I am a heavy sleeper).

We've had 6192 on the Fantasy and 7194 on the Dream. Absolutely loved both rooms just because of the extended verandahs. No soot, and plenty of shade. We've booked 7194 again for the Fantasy next September which is when we typically travel. This picture is 6192 on the Fantasy.IMG_1173.jpeg

We had 10660 in February 2023 on the Dream. Loved it. No soot and there was plenty of shade from the overhang that was Cabana's exterior seating. If you were at the edge of the balcony, people from Cabanas could look over and see you, but we didn't mind. It was kind of fun chatting with people.
The only negative was if we were pulling into port, there was significant shaking from the thrusters (?). But it was only a couple of times. I would still book an extended aft cabin again.

I was not the winner of the other room 😭

I've had extended verandahs on the Wish and Dream and did not experience soot issues. Really loved the cabins. The only downside was the long walk to anything. If you forgot something in the room it was a pain to go back.

My family and I spent 11 glorious nights in room 9672. Absolutely loved it! We usually cruise oceanview or inside. We have cruised two other times with a veranda, but this was our favorite. We found shade throughout most of the day. It all depends on the location of the ship to the sun. You will all love it!

I had heard that, as well. We never had an issue in 11 days. I think it depends on winds.

We didn't notice anything on our sailings on either the Dream or the Wish. Hoping it stays that way on our cruise on the Fantasy in 2024.

Only issue we had was an unannounced crew member doing maintenance on our balcony. Maintenance good...me in a towel coming out to change...bad. :)
We also had 2 back to back days of maintenance painting verandah railings, and re-doing tops of railings. I asked on the 3rd day to put a hold on any future work I did not feel comfotable with someone being there every day and din;t feel like we could be using the verandah.
Guest services put in a request and it was resolved. GS told me there is supposed to be a notice the night before on your door. We did not receive any notice.

Do you know if the connecting rooms with the extended balcony are able to open the balconies to create a larger one?
