I am looking at using some of my Aeroplan points to buy some park hopper passes for my upcoming December trip. I know it's not the best use of points but I have a ton and figured this would help lower the cost of the trip a bit. I can either purchase a 5 day park hopper pass or a 7 day park hopper pass, however, I will be at Disney for 6 days this trip. If I select the 5 day pass, am I able to add an extra day to the tickets when I arrive? If so, what would it cost? (I don't really need the park hopper option but it's all that is available through Aeroplan).

I haven't received any definite confirmation on if these can be upgraded so I hope someone has an answer! :thumbsup2

Has anyone had experience of going this route?

Thank you!

Yes they can be upgraded at the parks. But make sure u use at least one day before you upgrade or the price is higher to upgrade them.
I am thinking of doing the same thing next year. Flights are the same price out of buffalo as aeroplan wants just for the taxes plus a lot of points. So flights don't seem to be worth it for us to use up points so we are going to buy tickets too.

Thank you!!

Yes, when I looked at using miles for flights, I would have paid a lot in taxes and the available flights from Edmonton had 2 connecting flights. I found a direct flight that I didn't have to redeem miles for that was only $100 or so more than what aeroplan was offering so I thought that was a better use of my time.

Hi Kyle,

I have done this several times. I use the least amount of points and get the "cheapest" ticket my points will get me. And I was able to change a 5-day PH to a 7 day non-PH. I remember I actually got a credit back :).

The only thing I don't remember is if I used them first. I don't think I did, because since they were tickets I got from points, they were automatically attributed the gate price. Also, I'm pretty sure I would not have been able to remove the PH portion if I'd already used a day.

To calculate exactly what it will cost you to upgrade, just price out what Disney charges for a 5-day PH and then for a 6-day non-PH. Make sure you are getting the price after taxes. In general, it's about 10$ extra for every day you add (from days 6-10). And you get back about $57 by removing the PH.

I wasn't aware you could upgrade tickets and take away the park hopper option. I plan to use our points for tickets but don't need the park hopper option either so am curious how this works.
Do you just upgrade at the parks???

I did it at the MK guest services counter outside the gates. It was the most practical as I was staying at BTL. The CM knew exactly what she was doing, and it all worked out exactly as I had planned.

Again, I can't say for sure that you can remove options after using the ticket though. You can definitely add days, add PH, add NE, add WPF&M options after using it though (did all of that one year too).
